Today is his birthday.

IBJJF announced Leandro Lo will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at Worlds 2023.

8 years later, a full on grown man winning Pans at black belt both division and absolute- and not even yet at the top of his game; I’m talking Gi and No Gi…

Watching Nicholas do his thing in the Gi made me recall some great memories of the Gi and the excitement and energy of what the Gi provides. I wasn’t there in person, but from what I watched on Flo, the black belt finals crowd seemed less dense- maybe I saw that wrong? Covid did a number on all of us, so maybe we are just ramping back up?

The last BJJ event I attended had almost 14,000 people- and I can tell you, the athletes fed off that energy, as did everyone in attendance.

I hope IBJJF Worlds has a huge crowd! Last couple years it was sparse, again, covid had a lot to do with it, but that’s behind us now…

Don’t turn your back on the Gi…don’t let it die…just my opinion so no need to skewer me for it if you disagree.

Thank you to Nicholas and the other athletes I watched on Flo who hunted for subs and went all out to show the beauty of the Gi!

Congratulations, Nicholas-
no doubt the Gi has always been great, you’re just reminding people of that fact.

7 months.

I’d like to say the person has been arraigned, and a trial date is set. But that hasn’t happened.

I’d like to say we know the perpetrator will be tried in civilian court, but that hasn’t happened, and as far as I know, he’s still in “military custody” and there’s been “delays” in getting a court date set that fits his schedule.

I’d really like to say the person who murdered Leandro has been turned loose on the streets of São Paulo, so the people of Brazil can handle the case. But that hasn’t happened either.

6 months…
I’ve had messages asking what’s going on w the case? Reports are coming out of Brazil so not everyone is understanding what’s happening bc of the language barrier. I’ll try to explain here, as best I can. If you’re a Portuguese speaker and/or can add to this, or if I am mistaken in some events/facts, please address in the comments.

You may have seen video of a young woman and man speaking in what looks like a hidden camera type situation…this is footage from a TV show now running in Brazil, “Big Brother Brazil” aka BBB 23…
it’s the same idea as the show here in the USA, just the Brazilian version.

The video shows the woman, (w almost 8 million followers) speaking to (who knew Leandro) about what she saw the night Leandro was murdered.

She says she was there. Right there. An eye witness…yet, she didn’t come forward.

The video from the Big Brother house captures it all, and Sapato is visibly shook by her admission.

Now that this clip has been broadcast for all to see, people are upset.

How could she stay silent for nearly 6 months?

Leandro’s murderer has yet to step foot in a courtroom. He was supposed to last week, but there was a “conflict in his schedule” so the court date was postponed.

Alves says she didn’t come forward earlier bc she’s fearful- the murderer is a military cop. She didn’t want to get involved.

But now, all of Brazil is seeing this video clip and people want her to step up!

Leandro’s family lawyer called her out publicly a few days ago, asking that she comes forward and testify to what she witnessed.

Whether it’s corruption, selfishness, or fear (or a combo of all 3?), the light has now been shone on someone who was there and who can help nail this murderer.

It’s been 6 months since Leandro was assassinated, point blank.

It’s time for those who can help bring Justice to Leandro Lo’s family, to do so.
