The C family vacations in San Diego every year in the same beach house right on the ocean . . . but this year was different! Cori and her husband welcomed the very first grandchild, and little Camille is the undeniable star of the show! It was the perfect time to schedule a photo session.

I was honored that Susan, a fellow photographer, contacted me for a very important session for her family. It was her dad’s dream to do a once-in-a-lifetime trip with the entire family—something they weren’t able to do growing up—and to create memories the grandkids would remember forever. Family came from all over the country . . . Arizona, Montana, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, South Carolina, and New York—to gather at the Hotel Del. Susan’s main goal in booking a session was to have one full family photo for her father to look back on, since they had never had a gathering like this before.

It’s not every day the dad suggests the photo session, but that’s exactly how this one came about! These Texans from Austin were planning a California getaway and invited Lauren’s parents to join, since her mom had been “trying to get to California since the 7th grade.” It turned out to be one of the year's most beautiful evenings on the beach. Super-low tide, gorgeous clouds. I felt unequal to the possibilities. ✨

Some sessions just have the best energy. This San Diego family of five came to La Jolla Shores after welcoming baby number three, Stella, and the kids brought all the fun climbing sand hills, spinning on the shore, pulling the wagon like it was their job.

Maverick, five, is pure adventure. Kaylee, three, is all princess. And Stella, eighteen months, was happy just watching her big siblings do their thing. Kristina's favorite shot? The one with everyone together. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year!

Each year, Nina's company, Intention 2 Impact, chooses a different city for its annual team retreat . . . always aiming to capture the local vibe through a focused photo session. From personality rich headshots to relaxed co-working moments, these images become the heart of their website and marketing materials for the year ahead.

When Nina reached out with this vision, I suggested including the beach to fully embrace the San Diego feel. We began at their beautiful La Jolla Airbnb, then wrapped up at Windansea just as the sun was setting. With only a few minutes of golden light left, I guided them through my signature beach sequence rock climbing and silhouette jumps that rivaled the energy of their ebike tour earlier that week.
