Maria Soderman Photography

Maria Soderman Photography Soderman Photography specializes in Teenagers, Children and Newborns I was born and raised in Brazil. I moved to San Diego CA in 2000.

Over the next sixteen years I would learn English, become a United States citizen, complete seven years of college including three years studying photography, get married, give birth to a son, and then gradually begin my pursuit of becoming a professional photographer. I'm inspired by photography as a means of capturing moments in life that will never be forgotten and cherished forever. I create p

hotographs that will be always etched in the memories of people's lives as time goes by. I see photography as a way to connect people with their families, their needs and with their natural world. I truly believe being a photographer isn't simply about creating photographs… it also requires compassion and empathy to truthfully capture the images that inspire you. Newborns are truly my favorite subjects to photograph! With over 4 years of experience in photographing newborns, my passion for capturing the newness of life shows in the way that I comfort, soothe and carefully pose them for the images I create through my lens. Newborns stay new for such a short time, I love to capture all of the special details of your fresh little one before they begin to change. As San Diego’s premier newborn photographer, I am highly sought after for my unique perspective and uncanny ability to capture the beauty of newborn babies.

Is your LinkedIn photo costing you clients?

Problem :I I have been using the same photo for 15 years, I was younger then.
Solution: This creates a breach of trust. The client expects to find the person in the photo.
An updated photo generates credibility.

Problem: Grabbing a photo from an event or trip. It shows improvisation anda lack of professionalism.
Solution: Use a photo with a neutral background and professional lighting that clearly shows your face.

Problem: I took a selfie in the car, the lighting was good.
Solution: A profile photo taken on your phone with sunglasses communicates amateurism.
Invest in an image that conveys professionalism.

There’s no such thing as unphotogenic people. There are only people who are poorly directed.

I need a new headshot, but I’m not photogenic at all.
Let me tell you a secret: being photogenic isn’t a gift, it’s a technique.
It’s not your fault, it’s just that no one has ever really directed you.

What do you mean? I thought it was just about smiling at the camera.

Try this: instead of just smiling, project your chin slightly forward and
down. This defines the jawline and eliminates the double chin instantly.

Wow, what a difference! Where can I learn more tricks like this?
It’s easy, just follow Maria Soderman.

Hate your smile in photos taken of you?

I always appear with a forced smile in photos. Itlooks awful, it seems fake.
It’s because they ask you to “say cheese” or “smile for the camera.” The brain can’t force genuine emotion.
Exactly! And then I get stuck, with a blank expression.
The secret isn’t asking for a smile. It’s provoking it. I’ll never tell you to smile.
Instead, I’ll ask you: “What’s the greatest achievement you’ve ever had in your business?” or tell me about that unforgettable trip.
How incredible! I never imagined a photo shoot would be like this. Where can I see more of your work?
It’s easy. Just follow Maria Soderman.

✅ Why Hair & Makeup Matters for a Headshot

1. You look polished but still like you

Good HMU enhances your natural features without making you look overly done. The goal is a clean, confident, authentic look.

2. Makeup evens your skin tone

Headshots are close-up, so even small blemishes, redness, or uneven areas show. A little foundation, concealer, and powder makes the skin look smooth on camera. Follow to learn more.

Do you Think a headshot is expensive? This is what’s expensive.

Do you think investing in a professional headshot is expensive?

Let me tell you what’s really expensive.

Expensive is losing a client to a competitor who looks more professional than you online.

Expensive is having a proposal ignored because your LinkedIn photo doesn’t look good.

Expensive is spending hours creating content that no one takes seriously because your image doesn’t match the quality of your service.

Expensive is feeling insecure and not having the courage to position yourself as the expert you are.

Your image isn’t a cost. It’s the investment that opens the doors to high-value clients.

Follow Maria Soderman to build a personal brand that sells.

“I’m not photogenic.” The biggest lie you’ve been told.

Maria, I need new photos, but I have a problem: I’m not at all photogenic.
Let me tell you a secret: “Being photogenic” doesn’t exist. It’s a myth.
What exists is a person who’s uncomfortable in front of a camera, not knowing what to do. No one is born knowing how to pose in a way that’s magic.
The “magic” isn’t in you, it’s in the direction.
Wow, I never thought of that! Where can I learn more about how
does this process work?
It’s easy! Just follow Maria

Is it possible to take a quality headshot with a cell phone .
Cell phone photo vs professional in your profile.

With cell phone photos the lighting is bad, the background is distracting and the image quality screams “amateur.”
Quality headshots offer controlled lighting that enhances your features and provides a clean background that keeps the focus on you.

It’s not a matter of how much you weigh but the angle from which you are being photographed. My chin disappears and my double chin appears in every photo.

This happens when the photo is taken from below. The correct angle is with the camera at eye level or slightly above, jutting your chin forward.

I feel uncomfortable and don’t know how to pose.

Turn your body slightly sideways, at a 45-degree angle to the camera, and turn your face back toward the lens. This creates dimension and slims the silhouette.

Where can I learn the right pose for me?
It’s easy. Follow Maria Soderman to learn more
