The "sh*ttiest" days can make for the best photosšŸ“ø

The Grand Canyon is probably the most famous National Park in the US and has been photographed on a bright sunny Arizona summer day trillions of times.

However, visiting in the winter can make for an extraordinary change of pace. This day is was snowing, cloudy and windy, but it was the best day I ever could've come.

Not only did I have certain popular view points all to myself, but when the sun would peak through the clouds it created the most stunning light rays across the canyon. The light came in and out for hours dancing across the red rocks, creating a whole new perspective to this epic landscape.

I hope next time you're thinking about not going out because it's too cloudy or too windy, you try anyway. You never know what nature will serve to you.

3 Reasons to Visit Death Valley in the fall!

SAVE this post for your fall travel plans!

1. This one is obvious, but cooler temperatures means you can explore the park all day and hike without getting heat stroke!

2. Chance of wildflowers and Badwater Basin actually having water in it! There was a full on lake in the basin when I went and it was beautiful!

3. Less people! Of course all National Parks are busier in the summer, so if you want to have more peace and more camping spots, shoulder seasons are the best!

Bonus Tip: Fall also has better sunsets! Because there are more clouds in the sky due to the cooler weather. And one of the best spots for sunset is Dante’s Point!

Alabama hills is the best camping spot on the way to Death Valley!

Alabama Hills is a large open desert area at the foothills of Mt. Whitney. And they allow people to camp here for free!

Soon you will have to get a free permit to camp here, simply agreeing to keep the area clean, and leave no trace! They have had a lot of issues with people trashing this area since it’s become so popular, so please do your part and leave it clean so we can keep camping in awesome places like this!

Ever been to the Alabama Hills? Tell me how you like this epic spot below! ā¤µļø

I love Arizona

I lived in Arizona for 5 or so years when I was a kid. I moved out there from Michigan, so it was quite a culture and weather shock for me.

I don’t think I took the time to really appreciate this awesome state. It’s truly diverse and beautiful, and I think there are so many spots that are completely underrated! (Sedona to me is overrated, but we will get to that in another post).

Have you been to Arizona? What is your favorite part of the state? For me, it’s the Sonoran Desert area in the south.

Isle Royale National Park is one of my top National Parks of all time!

My dad and I spent months planning out or trip to Isle Royale, I grew up in Michigan and I didn’t even know it existed!

A few amazing facts about this park:

There are over 200 moose on the island and several packs of grey wolves! (even though we didn’t see any)

There have been 10 shipwrecks in the shoals of the Islands which you can dive to and visit today

Only about 20,000 people see this park each year making it one of the least visited in the US

Share this with someone that you want to go visit with šŸ“²

This was probably the biggest business mistake I have ever made… 🄓

And I hope sharing this will help at least one person from making the same one!

I was hired by a company to create a franchise video for one of their restaurant clients in Arizona. I called the restaurant and scheduled a date for me to drive out from San Diego to Phoenix to shoot for them. ( FYI THIS WAS A 6 HOURS DRIVE ) šŸš™

On the drive to Arizona I contacted the restaurant again to make sure all was set and ready to go and you would never believe what they said… they were out of town and had to re-schedule! Keeping in mind at this point I was 5 hours into the drive!

I had no cancelation clauses in place and I wasn’t even compensated for the travel.

Trying to keep a positive mindset I was still grateful I got one beautiful night to camp out in the desert and relax before the 6 hour drive home.

Let’s just say I altered my contract after this project!

Can I call myself a wildlife photographer now?

I finally added a wildlife lens to my photography gear collection, and I am so happy with my very first shoot!

- Its the Tamron G2 150-600mm f5-6 -

I did a LOT of research before deciding on this lens, and so far I absolutely love it! It's heavier than hell but I have hiked 5 miles with it without too much of an issue so I see myself using this lens for a long time.

It's also taught me to be a lot more patient and wait for the shot instead of being more run and gun, which is so different for me.

What do you think of my first pics? I'm definitely more trained in landscape photography but I do love the idea of adding wildlife to the story of the landscapes I shoot. Hopefully, it adds a fun perspective for you too!

Please tell me I'm not the only one obsessed with ferns!

You probably didn't know that I originally went to college to study botany (the study of plants). While the pandemic ruined that adventure, it didn't stop my love for plants.

Especially ferns!

Ferns are an enigma to me because of their ability to reproduce by spores, it's hard to think they still exist! This was one of the first methods of plant reproduction from the beginning of time! This is a method that has been deemed unusable by most plants, and evolution changed the system to the typical pollen and flowers we see today.

Next time you see a fern, turn the leaf over, see the spores, and marvel at this paleolithic wonder, knowing that these little plants shouldn't even exist!

An exploration of Vancouver, Canada!

These pictures are actually from a year and a half ago, but the best part about posting again is being able to edit and relive these special places.

Vancouver is such a magical place. If you love the pacific northwest in the US you can go a little farther north to explore the beauty of Vancouver!

Saguaro National Park during a storm!

This was such an epic stop on a southwest road trip. I love the classic Sonoran Desert look with the saguaro cacti and the creosote shrubs against the red rocks. I really can't get enough. But it's so rare to see this landscape like this.

Times like this is why I love photography. To show places like the Arizona desert on a cloudy and chaotic day with rainbows and moody tones. This day went from rain to sun to storm all within a couple hours, and I just loved it so much.

Right when you think you should put your camera away, because of the weather or your tired, that's when you need the shot. And that's how I felt this day.

I highly recommend Saguaro National Park for photography! Especially in the winter with more clouds and less excruciating heat. It's such a dense mass of cacti that's hard to get anywhere else in the US.

Have you been to this park or is it still on your national park bucket list?

White Sands National Park: Definitely not my favorite national park...

Some people are drawn to White Sands, probably because of some of the epic photoshoots against the white gypsum or because the gypsum is said to increase your energetic flow and open up any blockages you have.

Unfortunately for me, that was NOT the time I had.

I arrived in White Sands in February on a road trip with two other women I had basically just met. They were great, but I was so cold and exhausted when I got here I just wanted to bundle up and quit. While the sand can be beautiful, I've been to dozens of sand dunes in my life and these were small little hills compared to Sand Dune National Park in Colorado or even the Sand dunes in northern Michigan.

I just didn't understand the big appeal. Of course, my friends showed up in gorgeous dresses running around having the best time, so it was hard to be upset. But I'm not that kind of girl so maybe I'm missing that part of it too.

Honestly, I would not visit here again, to me this is an hour or 2 drive through the park, snapp a couple pics and move on.

What do you guys think? Should I give this park another chance? Am I missing something that I should know about White Sands? I'd love to hear your experiences with this park and what your opinion is!
