A first look happens once. It lasts about six seconds. Here’s what those six seconds actually looked like, frame by frame, from a wedding I photographed in California.

I’m based in Boston, but I go where my couples go.

This is the part of the day people ask me to slow down for. I can’t slow the moment down. I can make sure nothing in it gets missed.

Every wedding has two versions of itself, and after nine years of standing close enough to watch both unfold, I still find the second one as the reason I love this job.

There’s the version everyone sees in the photos afterward, the dress catching the light just right, the ceremony arch glowing gold in the late afternoon sun, two people standing perfectly still for one breath before the whole day rushes forward again. It’s beautiful, and it’s real, and I’ll always work hard to get it right.

But then there’s the other version, the one that happens in the half second before or after that photo, when nobody’s holding a pose anymore. A hand gripped a little too tight during vows. A laugh that catches someone off guard on the dance floor. The look on a parent’s face when they realize their kid is actually, finally, married. Those moments never wait for me to be ready, which is exactly why I never stop watching for them.

You can always tell. Somewhere between the vows and the first dance there’s a look that gives it away. Jeff had it the second Hannah came around the corner on her dad’s arm at The Inn at Hastings Park. She had it every time he wasn’t watching and she was watching him.

This is what I chase as a Boston wedding photographer working across New England. Not posed smiles, the real ones. My photojournalistic style is built for exactly this kind of moment, the unscripted look that a portrait alone can’t fake. I still love a well composed elegant portrait too, but it’s these small unguarded seconds that end up being the timeless ones.

Had the chance to get a break from weddings and do a fun, family shoot. And this family brought the volume up and never let it drop.

The kids ran wild through Prescott Park. Piggyback rides, karate poses, a cartwheel mid sunbeam. Mom and dad watching with the kind of smile that only comes from raising three kids who never sit still.

When the sun dropped low over the marina, the energy smoothed out and things got slower and quiet. I love the shots of May and Jackson because at the end of the day it’s just two people who lovingly still reach for each other after a whole day of chaos.

That’s why I love my job, really. Show up for the noise and the quiet, and make sure both feel just as real.

Full wedding coverage with me starts at $4,500, around 8 hours of candid, photojournalistic photography, a personalized gallery, full print rights, and a portrait consultation so your day runs exactly how you pictured it. Elopements start at $1,500 and engagement sessions at $700.

Every collection is flexible, because no two weddings are alike, so if you need extended hours, a second shooter, or an engagement session they can always be added to fit your day.
