Things we do for our kids | A cold, November night on Pier 39 in San Francisco: what should clearly be a bustling leisure spot is drearily empty. A father waits patiently as his child rides the merry-go-round - or carousel as some call it.
I took this shot with a monochrome image in mind - but ultimately cannot decide which I like better. Which do you prefer - colour or black and white?

We had a brief but fun chat, and then suggested we take portrait shots of one another. I posted the one I took of him earlier but reposting it here along with the one he took of me on film. I like his a lot better - which isn’t surprising as he’s an awesome photographer!

Cerise Kameez | While on a photo walk in old Dubai - with the inspirational - we met this gentleman: an Afghan selling carpets from his homeland. I found his cherry colored kameez (long flowing shirt typical of Afghanistan and neighboring countries) striking.
Steve McCurry, given his long history and experience in that region, was able to engage in a deep conversation with this gentleman. I watched on in admiration - a moment made possible by the great people .

Steve seeking shadows | purposefully striding the bustling market passages of Istanbul to find the perfect combination of light and shadow. Or was it Marrakech? Dhaka? Kandahar? Mogadishu? 😉 Anyways, he’s probably done it in all these places.
In this case the setting was the textile souq in the old part of Dubai. And the occasion was a photo walk organized by the amazing team

Turquoise and Proud | The cast of characters in the Deira area of Dubai is something worth experiencing - especially because the people - mostly from the Indian sub-continent - are usually happy to be photographed.
This gentleman stood out proudly in his vibrant, turquoise shalwar kameez (the unique combination of wide, tapered trousers and long, flowing shirt typical to Pakistan, Afghanistan and parts of India. Shot taken during a photo walk with the inspirational - made possible by the amazing team . 🙏🏽

Red Head | Photo walking around the old heart of Dubai is all about the unbelievable variety of characters you encounter. And of course this gentleman caught my eye - all the more fitting for him being an Afghan, as I was privileged to be walking around with thanks to !
Although it was his slicked-back red hair that drew me initially, I think it’s the fact that this guy keeps a comb with the same colors in his pocket that makes the shot!

Portrait of the portrait master | As if meeting wasn’t enough; as if spending a few hours on a photo walk around old Dubai with him wasn’t enough; I found myself taking a portrait of him. Considering that he gave us - probably the most famous modern photographic portrait - amongst so many other amazing images, this was quite the privilege for me.
This was all the better for him being a super nice guy. Huge thanks to for making this magical thing happen.

A Prince of Princep | In honor meeting the living legend photographer Steve McCurry (thanks to !), I’m busting out again some of my favourite shots from India, where his amazing journey in photography started.
I met this gentleman in the area of Kolkata called Princep Ghat. I was drawn to him because he had a noble aura around him - which was quite something given his very difficult circumstances.

La donna di il Duomo | I was standing in colonnade outside the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele - the beautiful shopping arcade next to Il Duomo - taking photos of the tourists and shoppers weaving in an out. This lovely young woman walked into my frame and tried quite hard to duck out of it when she realized — so I asked if she’d like her photo taken. She was super friendly and kindly posed for a few shots.
On this trip to Milan I didn’t get much time to explore and shoot the sights - and the one afternoon I did get turned out to be about people. Which was just as nice!

A Little Night Music | Had the pleasure of attending a dinner and drinks evening .eu - a beautiful location for such events in Milan. Entertaining us for some of the evening was this very good musical trio - bringing a touch of jazzy class.
I liked this image of the singer and guitar player looking at their iPad as if checking what they’re playing next. Been there!
