Privacy has always been incredibly important to me as a photographer… but I’ve been thinking about it a lot more lately. I’m asked all the time if I offer family photos, and when I say yes, the follow-up is usually, “Why don’t you post them?” But the answer is pretty heavy and hard to explain.

My intention with this post isn’t to scare anyone away from sharing their child’s photos, nor to shame photographers who do post children. I just want to remind everyone that once we make an image public, we can’t control who sees it, saves it, or what technology may be able to do with it.

I’ve made the personal decision to keep some of the most precious photos I’ve taken off of social media and my website. Not because I don’t love the photos, but because I love the people in them more.

Destination weddings sometimes mean planning across time zones, scouting locations virtually, and recommending 6am for our beach session the day before because sunrise has the most beautiful light.

I realized today that I forgot to share this beautiful wedding day with you all… and I have absolutely no clue how.

At the end of July, Luke and I traveled to Colorado to photograph Aletha & Brady’s wedding day. We were met with extremely stormy weather the day before. With rain on the forecast for wedding day as well… I was a little nervous. It rained off and on, but cleared up just in time for their outdoor ceremony. Aletha and Brady read the sweetest vows to each other under the pine trees and you could feel so much love in the air. Family members and close friends laughed, cried, and celebrated.

By the time their first dance came, the sun started to peek through the trees creating the prettiest golden glow. We went out and took some stunning portraits before the sun finished setting. This day turned out to be so special because they got the best of both worlds—a touch of rain for good luck and a dreamy golden hour to end the day. Needless to say, I loved photographing this wedding so much.
