There are many things that influence me artistically.
Longing is one of them. I often find myself photographing moments for others that I wish I had for myself.
I regret not gifting myself a maternity session while I was pregnant. I didn’t know it would be my only pregnancy, I felt frumpy in that short girl boob-meets-belly-in-one-big-bump kind of way, I didn’t know how much I would end up wanting these memories recorded as the years ticked on, and I didn’t know how important they would become for my daughter, too.
I have a few not-great camera photos from my pregnancy, and I cherish those. But I wish I had honored the transformation, the creative energy, the passing through a threshold, the hope and possibility, the life altering experience of pregnancy.
And so I carry that longing with me into every maternity session I offer and it serves as creative fodder. This session was pure magic 🪄— I absolutely love recording this experience for pregnant mamas.
