Labor Day is a reminder that the rights and protections many workers have today were fought for by organizers, activists, immigrants, and working people who demanded dignity, fair wages, and the right to rest.

And today, so many of the people who keep our communities fed and thriving are still working, especially our street vendors.

These portraits I have taken over the years in my neighborhood are a small tribute to the people who show up every day, often carrying the weight of their businesses, families, and dreams with them.

So proud of mi amor, Josué, for completing the SAN FRANCISCO FIRE DEPARTMENT fire reserve program. ❤️🚒

This is one more step toward his dream of chasing fire and serving the city where he was born and raised. What I admire most about him is how dedicated he is, not just to this dream, but to continuing to learn, grow, and find ways to serve his community.

I’ve had the privilege of watching how much work, time, and commitment he has put into getting here. He approaches it all with so much humility and heart, and I couldn’t be more proud to stand beside him.

Felicidades to Josué and to everyone who completed the Fire Reserve program. It was beautiful to witness the dedication and care each person brought to this journey. There is so much love behind choosing to show up and serve others.

Big shout out to all his mentors and OG reservist who showed him the ropes!

Presence itself is powerful.
August 9, is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

A day to recognize and respect Indigenous knowledge, cultures, territories, and rights. To acknowledge that Indigenous communities, voices, and presence are very much here.

Many communities continue to face violence, land dispossession, exploitation of their territories, environmental degradation, and the ongoing loss of rights and cultural knowledge.

Sharing a few portraits from Sunrise Ceremonies I’ve had the honor of photographing over the years.

I’m still learning about my own ancestry, and what it means to approach this work with respect, listening, and humility.
