Chet Davis Photography I love capturing the beauty of our world and sharing it with others. I hope you enjoy what I capture and share with you. Chet Davis

I love experiencing the wonder of our planet; the amazing animals, friendly people, and lovely landscapes. I've been immersed in digital storytelling (video making and photography) for more than 35 years, having taught workshops and classes to help people realize their own fulfillment through a lens. I see photography and videography as an opportunity to capture the feeling I am experiencing in th

at moment as a way to share it with others. I know that when I am looking more closely at the world around me, I am definitely seeing more of it - and experiencing life on a more grand scale. I am grateful firstly that this craft has allowed me to be more present in this life, and secondly provided me with the means to share it with others. I make many of my photos available for those who wish to experience these feelings and moods in their own space.

We stopped in the town of Grand Marais, Minnesota on our recent trip to Lake Superior. They have a breakwater out against the Lake that has some unique rock formations and affords a great view. I captured this photo of my wife there looking out to the depths of the Lake which goes on and on like the sea.

In this image I like the irregular shape of the rocks in the foreground, the blue in the lake and the sky and the cloud formations. I also find the image of my wife looking out as symbolic of the many times I found myself taking a moment to enjoy the peace found beside this great body of water.

We had seen plenty of Water Lilies all over Southeast Asia, but I was surprised to see them in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. After a little research, I learned there are 2 species there - the common White Water Lily (photo below) and the Yellow Pond Lily.
I enjoyed getting my camera down close to the surface of the water to capture these beautiful plants.

On one of our hikes in our recent Lake Superior trip, my wife spotted a Monarch butterfly as we came down the trail around this small group of tall yellow flowers. We spent a few minutes admiring its beauty - and captured a number of photos and even a short video of this beautiful creature. Here's my favorite photo of the bunch - apart from the dramatic colors and the detailed lines of the Monarch I like how the background vegetation is just a soft focused palette for the Monarch to showcase it's beautiful colors.

When I see birch bark, I immediately think of forests in upper New England and Canada. We were around lots of birch trees on our recent trip to Minnesota and Ontario, Canada. It’s so interesting to me how the bark peels away, a growth process similar to how a snake sheds its skin.

I captured this image to show a closer view of the peeling bark but included other trees in the background to give the viewer a sense that you are inside of a forest. You can see a faint warm color in the late afternoon sky behind the other trees, out of focus.

On our recent trip to the BWCA - Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota, we had arrived at our campsite and gotten things set-up. We decided to take the canoe "out for a spin" at sunset. The lighting was glorious! Grateful to experience this magical place on our planet.

Thanks to Ely Outfitting Company for a wonderful trip!

On our recent trip to Lake Superior we spent 4 nights in Marathon, Ontario (Canada). on the edge of town is this beach that sits on Lake Superior that is filled with stones called Pebble Beach. We arrived late in the afternoon one day and walked across the teach (it's a bit tricky as the stones make it like walking on an obstacle course). I observed the sun in the west reflecting across the water and captured a few photos - this was my favorite of that moment.

On the large expanse that is Denali National Park - I saw this tiny Bellflower and had to capture this photo. Apart from the shapes and colors I really like the raindrops on the petals of the flower.

We have this lovely Mimosa Tree (Persian silk tree) in the backyard that has blossoms that look like fireworks going off in the sky. On a recent evening I noticed the glow from our fire pit was illuminating the blossoms in an interesting way, and I just had to capture the moment.

At the Marin County Fair last evening we arrived early to get a good seat for the Fireworks display. As we sat there waiting for the sky to darken, a flock of Canadian Geese were paddling around the lagoon. I liked the composition with the large Ferris Wheel on the left, the colorful lights of the fair behind and the dusk skies in the background - with the silhouettes of the Geese in the foreground.

I am grateful to live a short walk from this lagoon. We take walks here at different times of the day and there is often beautiful views to take in.

On an evening recently I happened to see a group of Canadian Geese swimming towards shore, silhouetted against the golden sun in the distance. I quickly got out my phone and captured this image, the last of the Geese swimming in frame.
