I had every intention of waiting until the film came back to share this wedding, but I’m making no apologies for changing that plan. So here’s the preview!

These two, who were introduced by the friend who would eventually do their wedding florals (!!), were married on a beautiful hilltop in Tiburon. The moment they were pronounced married, a lion dancing troupe came running in to begin the celebration. I’ve photographed lion dancers before, but this was easily the most impressive performance I’ve ever seen.

Two of the lions leapt and danced across the jong, a series of elevated platforms just large enough for their feet to land. Then they joined the couple and their guests for photos, which made for some of my favorite portraits of the day.

The rest of the gallery will have its moment. But this was far too good to withhold in the meantime. 🦁🎉

In honor of Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment and women gaining the right to vote, I’m looking back at the second Women in the Arts gathering with Shokunin at the incomparable Saint Joseph’s Arts Society.

There was something especially fitting about learning Suminagashi with Shaine-drake that afternoon. Each drop of ink creates a ripple, shifts the pattern, and leaves its own distinct mark. A beautiful parallel to what happens when women use their voices and make space for others to do the same.
