Håfa adai friends!
For those who have been around since the beginning of Brown Guy Design, I am sure you have seen the price of my work slowly change. And, hopefully, you’ve also seen the quality of my work change (for the better, hopefully).
When I began BGD, I priced my work to reflect my skill level at the time, as well as to be accessible for my peers (undergrad theater kids). Headshots for $30 bucks, graduation shoots for $50, etc.
And all of this was on a sliding scale, if you couldn’t afford those prices — we’d figure it out. And sometimes that meant $15 for a full gallery of work.
Financial accessibility is very important to me, and I want everyone to have access to high quality photos and graphics.
And financial stability has to be accessible to me too — for the amount of time and money I have invested into Brown Guy Design, it’s time for me to shift my pricing to reflect the quality of the art I produce, be competitive in a super saturated market, and compensate myself adequately.
This means Brown Guy Design’s rates will be very different from what you’ve seen in the past.
(Check the highlights or my website for my pricing sheet)
That said, I will still try to be as accessible as possible. This means, payment plans and discount days. I know what it feels like for quality service to be out of reach, and I want to fight against that in my business.
I want to be able to sustain my life doing what I love, which is creating art with all of you. And I think it’s possible with help. I hope you’ll stick around.
Bula guinaiya,
si Reed
