The assigned vertical structural constrained format allowed for extravagance and unleashed creativity in designing two 12" x 48 " playful and colorful garden pieces. It provided an opportunity to invoke magical realism by including "Alebrije pajaros"- exotic birds (Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures). Gardens do not exist without birds, and vice versa.
These pieces are available as a diptych or as a single.

3 MORE WEEKS @ the Salon at the Triton 2024
Triton Museum of Art
1505 Warburton Avenue
Santa Clara, CA 95050
through Sunday, September 8, 2024
The entire exhibition is quite beautiful. I hope you can visit the Triton Museum in Santa Clara. My surreal painting
DOBLANDO LA REALIDAD, "Bending Reality," completed in 2021, is a mixed-media painting on a 48" x 36" canvas. I was
pleasantly surprised to be awarded First Place in the Mixed Media category!

I continue experimenting with these NEW WORKS; in 2024, I've had several months where the painting was impossible. Cabinets, storage, and significant purging created a suitable space and environment for my painting endeavors to flourish. In the meantime, I experimented on my iPad using the Procreate App, which I have been using for simple artwork. My goal was to paint somehow, and if it was doing it digitally, why not? Painting with a plastic pen on glass is unlike painting with wet brushes loaded with pigment onto canvas. The beautiful features are in layering and treated like printmaking by transposing many layers around to create new visuals. I include traditionally prepared gouache backgrounds in all these images, scanned and imported to create more depth. I also added Mexican iconography! It's great fun to see how many possibilities there are.

Lots more can be seen on https://www.maguecalanche.com and they are available at affordable prices.

WOMEN CREATE SPACE
Olive Hyde Art Gallery at 123 Washington Blvd. in Fremont, Ca
The Reception is this Friday, August 23, from 7 to 9 p.m.

A very beautiful and conceptual wide array of absolutely gorgeous 3-dimensional collections of very fine arts! You will be glad to have made the trip, and if you want a contrast to SF weather, this trip is well worth your while. I am proud to have my corn husk mask included because this piece is about celebrating the sacred. In Mexico, it incorporates the unusual with enchantment, transforming into mythical pasts, wearing handcrafted costumes to partake in an enchanting, dream-like festivity. This is where the border between the spirit and natural worlds dissolves. This Mazatl headpiece is an hommage to the Yaqui (Yoeme) deer dance of Sonora, a form of storytelling that conveys spiritual messages and depicts life lessons. maguecalanche.com

Here are more NEW WORKS, 2024 I've had several months where actual painting was impossible. I moved my studio from San Anselmo back to San Francisco. Cabinets, storage, and significant purging created a suitable space and environment for my painting endeavors to flourish.
