That time I thought I wanted to be a rock photographer.. and ended up getting to take photos of the Killers. They were in the Bay Area to record their four track demo, before they got a major deal. None of us were true professionals yet. The location and concept were terrible, and everyone knew. The keyboardist couldn't keep from looking bored and bemused the whole time, and I wasn't blaming him. I pretty much spent four hours doing damage control, while taking photos and talking quietly to the makeup artist about how we could move the shoot to a location that fit the concept. At some point we all gave up on getting good photos, then went to Pop Scene to dance and relax. This photo was shot moments before we went into Pop Scene and the band completely gave up. The photos were never used for anything as far as I know, and the guy who produced the shoot never even paid me back for the film and processing. I worked completely for free, with the hope of a licensing payout if my images were used.. because it was obvious to me where they were headed. Now that I'm archiving and scanning ALL of my negatives, I've also remembered that the same guy who organized this shoot never returned two rolls of my negatives, as promised. I would really love to have the rest of my negatives returned to me, one of these days. Sometimes, even I don't believe some of my stories, until I start digging through my photo archives. ©nileshatchphotography
