For the past year+ I’ve been consistently working behind the scenes developing a body of personal creative work in a completely different direction, waiting for the pieces to slowly come together “enough” to publish it on social media. At first glance, it is extremely different than anything else I’ve produced before as a “photographer” . . in fact, I’ve been identifying myself as a mixed media artist who uses a camera + computer + image transfers. This new series, which I call “abstracted figures,” is a combination of my current figure photography blended with my old and new abstract photography. It was inspired by the “Time” theme of the group show of my art studio , where I didn’t play with incorporating literal references to “time” (clocks, hours and minutes, etc), but rather went back to a period of time in my childhood when I frequently suffered from tonsillitis . . and with it a high fever, looping hallucinations of falling, and the vivid and terrifyingly vertiginous sensation of uncontrollably spinning weightlessly past blurs of colors and textures, desperately wanting the experience to stop. Anyway . . recently, although the series will certainly continue to develop and take shape, the aspects of this series have started to come together “enough” that I feel comfortable sharing it. This particular piece is called “This Love, Fist, Scar, Break”
