Two years ago, I made the slightly unhinged decision to switch careers from photography to filmmaking.
A lot of people warned me I was entering a grueling world. That Hollywood was dead. That this was a terrible time to come into the industry. That maybe I should, you know, reconsider.
But anyone who knows me well knows that when I get my mind set on something, I tend to go for it regardless of how terrifying, impractical, or objectively difficult it may be. Capricorn rising, Aires moon 💁🏼♀️
What I’ve found on the other side of that leap is that this world isn’t grueling at all. It’s full of some of the most passionate, wildly talented, driven, generous, beautiful people I’ve ever met. People who believe that telling stories matters.
And honestly, what a beautiful way to spend our very limited time on this planet: making things, telling stories, connecting with each other, and trying to leave a little piece of ourselves behind.
So I can’t imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t jumped off that career cliff.
Our HollyShorts experience was pure magic. I still can’t quite believe that one of my first films (and one that tells a deeply personal story) got to premiere in one of the most iconic theaters in Hollywood, surrounded by so many people who helped me get here.
To everyone who made this dream possible, and also to those who will fish my phone out of a movie theatre trash can: you know who you are, and you know how much I love you. ❤️
Two years in. Still jumping.
MORE TO COME. ✨
