It’s pretty special to see my "Tapers shot" from the Grateful Dead at Merriweather Post Pavilion on June 30, 1985 turned into a 16-foot-wide audio/visual installation for the Grateful Dead Forever exhibit at the Hall of Flowers in San Francisco.

I shot this 41 years ago. Never would’ve imagined it ending up like this. Pretty damn cool. 📸✌️

Big congrats to everyone at the Haight Street Art Center for putting together such a wonderful exhibit.

Some love for New York Rocked! from the people who’ve gotten their hands on it.

These are the kind of words that make all the years of photographing, editing, and putting this book together worthwhile. Thanks to everyone who’s taken the time to share their thoughts!

📣 I got the book today and just looked at the pictures page by page. MAGNIFICENT! Even better than I imagined. Now I am going to get a drink and go through it again and savor the memories!
Thanks!
Mark K.

Received the book, wow so amazing brings back so many memories of my adolescence. I grew up in CT and NYC in the 70s and 80s. The photo of the Dead is amazing and I love all the Hot Tuna and Jorma pics. Really wonderful book!!! I wish you all the best

Thank you for putting together such a thoughtful, intimate, and artful perspective with New York Rocked. It is a nice addition to the Just Jerry, Bob, and Phil. Really kind of geeking out over the MerryWeather Post Tapers section photograph. Kind of a you know if you know kind of thing. Enjoyed telling my kids about it. Keep in touch and keep em coming.

I received your recent publication "New York Rocked" and I am thoroughly enjoying it.. As a rock fan who was not in New York City during those years, the tour was a welcome education. I might add that the portrait of Jerry Garcia, p.129, is the best I have ever seen!

Thank you!

Thank you!
Wow...what great memories your book has refreshed. Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!
Again, many thanks for this latest photo archive. I'm experiencing amazing flashbacks!!!
Howard S.

I was thrilled to get a package in the mail today - with your latest beautiful compilation enclosed. My wife led the charge turning through each page, while I recalled each venue, we both recalled the artists, and I smiled from ear to ear as the memories flooded back. Your concert diary pages on the inside front/back spreads were a fabulous addition.
Well done old friend. I'm proud to say I know you!
Kevin B.

The book arrived, and even after this long journey, it is in excellent condition!!
Congratulations on your work! It's truly amazing!
Thank you very much,,

September 3, 1977 — Englishtown, NJ
aka "Summer's End Festival"
49 years ago today, the Grateful Dead played one of their most unforgettable shows—and the biggest Dead show that I ever saw—over 150,000 folks came out for a marathon day of music with the Dead, Marshall Tucker Band, and NRPS.

I didn’t bring my camera, but I’m grateful I saved a few keepsakes — my ticket stub, the ad, the notation from my concert list and newspaper clippings that captured the scale of it all.

Were you there?

On this day back in 1992, I headed up to Greg’s ranch in West Marin for a photoshoot with this classic lineup of Zero.

Steve Kimock, Martin Fierro, Judge Murphy, Pete Sears, Greg Anton, and Liam Hanrahan.

Shot with Kodak Plus-X and a Hasselblad.

What a band. What a day.

A photo tribute to Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay on
her birthday. 🌹🥀

A collection of photographs I’ve taken of Donna Jean over the years, along with a few special memories of a wonderful friend.

One of those memories was a flight we took together in 2008. We had talked about going flying, and it turned out her father had owned a flight school in Alabama when she was growing up, so she was very familiar with airplanes. I’ll always cherish that flight and the time we shared.

Grateful for her friendship and all the memories.

Background music: my favorite “Sunrise,” from 11/6/77.

Happy heavenly birthday, Donna Jean. ❤️

45 years ago—On this day in 1981, Jerry Garcia Band played the tiny Fairfax Pavilion in Marin County billed as Jerry's birthday benefit for the Fairfax School District. 🎂

Balloons, birthday cake, neighbors and music filled the little room. It felt less like a concert and more like a gathering of the community.

The lineup that night was Jerry, Melvin Seals, Jimmy Warren, Daoud Shaw, Liz Stires and Essra Mohawk, with the rare appearance of Phil Lesh on bass instead of John Kahn.

This event, just two days after the Keystone show solidified my goal to move to the Bay Area.

Grateful I was there with a camera. Here are some of my favorite shots from that night. 📸 © Bob Minkin Photography
