Let’s talk about the froggy pose. 🐸

It’s probably one of the most requested newborn poses—and also one of the poses that should ONLY be done by someone who understands how to do it safely.

What you don’t see in the final image is just as important as what you do see.

A baby should NEVER be left unsupported in this position. A photographer’s hand should always be on baby, supporting their head, neck, or wrists. The final image you see is created by professionally compositing multiple images together and removing those supporting hands in editing.

Why does this matter?

When done incorrectly, this pose can put unnecessary pressure on baby’s wrists and neck and can potentially compromise their airway. Newborns cannot tell us when something doesn’t feel right, and they cannot safely support themselves in this position.

So if you ever see behind-the-scenes footage of a newborn sitting completely unsupported in a froggy pose… 🚩🚩🚩

Run far away from that photographer.

No photo is worth compromising a baby’s safety.

The froggy pose is beautiful. It’s popular for a reason. But knowing how to create it safely is part of what you’re trusting your newborn photographer to know. 🤍
