I can finally share this sweet announcement session and ahhh, I am so happy!!! I am so excited for this precious family to welcome baby number two soon! Repeat clients are my love language and watching them grow their family is such a honor! Crew is going to be the best big bro!! And can we talk about Lisa’s dress?! So perfect for the studio 😍

I love big families. I will say it over and over again, I love big families!!! So will I shoot your big extended family session? Yes PLEASE!! But you have to promise me you’ll play and laugh with your loved ones, because stiff and posed, is not my jam.

Oh, and each extended family session needs a cousin footrace. Period. Clearly these kiddos crushed it. ☀️

Yesterday I just posted about studio sessions, but do you want to why I’d pick your home over a studio for your newborn session every time?! It has very little to do with logistics, and everything to do with EMOTION.

It is because home is where the heart is. The rooms already know your rhythms. The light falls where it always has and where you watch it every day. The baby settles easier. The kids don’t perform or have nerves, instead they play, they belong.

This at-home newborn session in Norfolk felt unhurried and honest. It was the third at home session for this precious family. I was welcomed back to soft morning light, bare feet on familiar floors, parents moving with confidence because nothing here was staged for the camera, Christmas decorations starting to add magic and tradition, and the comfort of home adding a deeper nostalgia to their portraits. That simply can not be replicated in a studio.

These are the details that won’t feel dated years from now and not because they’re perfect, but because they’re true.

For families who want newborn and family photography that feels like life as it’s actually lived (playful and deeply personal) home is often the most meaningful place for your session. I have spots left in February and March for more in-home sessions, for newborn, family, or maternity!

Many of you may already know this talented girl, but if you don’t, go follow her !! I’ve had the joy of photographing her beautiful family for the past 7+ years — but beyond that, she has been the definition of community over competition.

In an industry that can so easily feel competitive, Shawna has always been a cheerleader, an innovator, and a true friend. We’ve celebrated each other’s business wins, shared ideas freely, and encouraged one another through every season, and we’ve been able to do that because of the respect she has for me and the respect I have for her and what she has created. She’s genuine, creative, and one of the most graceful people I know — and I’m so thankful to do a little bit of life and business alongside her! My heart was so full editing these and I just felt like she deserves a shoutout. 💕 Let’s not forget how stunning these two are!!

This summer, six of our best friends, and us, with our families—twelve kids between us—spent time together on the most beautiful historic farm off the James River. It belonged to friends of our friends and they invited us to come stay (thanks sara and andrew!!), where we made some of our favorite memories of our summer there.

These photos are two of those dear friends and their sweet kiddos, taken right on that property where we all stayed. We jumped out of the pool for a quick 30-minute family session, and it turned into something really special — and you’d never know the stomach bug was ravaging through the house 😂🤍
