Who still has a box of 4x6 prints? I have like three shoe boxes from childhood, high school and maybe right up until digital took over. Then I pretty much have nothing printed.

There are hundreds of amazing pictures of my kids playing in the backyard that they have never seen. Digital files live and die on old hard drives that are so close to being obsolete.

Several years ago all of my wedding couples received a box of printed proofs with the most memorable parts of their incredible day. Touching photos does something that a slideshow just can't, and I insist that everyone experience it for themselves.

So when was the last time you printed pictures? Where do you keep them?

✅ New Headshot

Happy Wednesday! I have a Headshot Mini Event happening tomorrow and just opened up session times on Friday and Saturday. I know it's short notice, but this is the perfect opportunity for the "just one" professional quality headshot to update your social profiles, email signature and business card.

We get everything done including choosing the image and discussing retouching in 20 minutes. Super Easy! I'll have your one image turned around by Monday morning with two crops, three backgrounds and a .png for you.

This is school picture day for grown-ups at my downtown studio.
See you there!

PS. Let me know right away if my link or scheduler form has any tech issues. Thanks!

It's been a while since I have introduced myself. Hey, I am Amy, and like you, I've been reflecting... maybe a little longer than most people do.

So much has changed in the last few years that I haven't bothered updating the social sphere of my focus and passions. I suppose as long as I keep delivering great photos to my clients, who cares, right?

Well, it has bothered me that I don't have my one main specialty like I used to. I've been a photographer for 20 years, and weddings were #1 for so long. So when my favorite thing became overshadowed by new favorites, it made me sad.

There is this big idea in the pro photographer world that you have to specialize to become successful, but that has not been my experience. I have dabbled in several genres including figure skating and real estate. I enjoy it all. And as some of you know, I found my happiest place in school pictures as the new owner of All-Star Photo. Oh man, those kids are going to give me smile wrinkle lines! Now weddings are back on the books, and I have a steady stream of personal branding and headshot sessions coming to the studio. I need the variety, and I need to be good at everything I do. Can anybody relate?

Producing quality images gives me joy. Being a photographer is awesome!

**But** there is something else going on in the background of my business that I have been quietly preparing for a while. I had to put it on hold when I was offered All-Star Photo, because Lord knows I needed to be laser focused on that for a solid year. Drum roll...

I am now teaching photography!!! YEP, I am pretty excited about it. So many years this has been tucked away in my heart. I want to share all about it, but it's too much for this post.

For now, I have a question for you. Given the choice, would you rather take a course online or attend a workshop in person? Let me know in the comments.

Our moose friend stopped by the studio today. I wonder if I should get back to work, you know... the 90% of what I do that is not taking pictures. Or maybe I should go back to my office and get my camera. Yeah, tough choice!
I am packed and ready to go to the US Figure Skating 2022 Pacific Coast Adult Sectional in Spokane this weekend. I am the "official" photographer (follow my schools/sports ). Woohoo!!
Joining me on Saturday is the lovely Miss Hannah ...Together again after more than a decade! I'm seriously blessed to work side by side with this woman!
If you love working with your friends, let them know. Tag them even. I'll start.

Baby, it IS COLD outside... But even the winter blues can't compete with the golden glow of my new studio. I am just in love with this space!

I chose the Sandpoint Event Center to be my home because it fosters a safe and polished environment for education and the arts. This is so key to enjoying my work which is always pushing my skill and creativity toward the next level.

My name is on the door. This particular dream has been ten years in the making. There is so much more to come!

If your best friends come to your session, even if they are along just for the ride, we are going to get a picture of you all together. I'll just call out for a group hug and go with whatever happens. 😄

Our intention for Logan's session was always to get the setting sun in this exact spot. You'd have to scroll back a ways on my page to find the identical set up for Logan's sister, Brittaney. It's pretty cool to go out to locations that you know are going to be spectacular no matter what. Of course, being photobombed by some random cow just adds the individualized flair. The stubborn beauty refused to move, so we got what we needed from the sun while we could. Then Logan and said cow had some words... see pic in comments.

I couldn't resist another picture with our surprise flash mob of cows looking to Logan as if he directed them. This is where I always remember the corny jokes, whether or not I said them aloud, I can't remember. But here is Logan, outstanding in his field... 🐮 LOL

All jokes aside... You are the most easy going and naturally confident young man I've met in a while. I bet your parents are quite proud!

Of all the things I prepared for ahead of Logan's senior portrait session, I wasn't expecting this...

We were just getting warmed up with shots of Logan and the old pickup truck. You saw some of those in my last post. My lights were set up in one direction to balance out the harsh golden hour sun coming through the trees. I thought maybe we would move on to get a few in the cab, but that idea was interrupted by a growing rumble behind me.

At first, I only saw one or two cows headed toward us followed by a cloud of dust. I turned and told Logan we had to move fast! "Get in the middle of the road!" I moved my light and started shooting.

Here comes the whole herd... Oh my gosh! They came to a halt in a straight line about eight feet behind Logan. He didn't flinch, of course, and I had the truck to jump in just in case. Everyone was laughing. Must be dinner time! I grabbed four or five pictures of Logan and a quick shot with the parents before they figured out we weren't throwing down the hay. It was a great moment that lasted almost three minutes according to the time stamp on my photos.

Deep breath. That just happened. Okay, back to the truck.
