We welcome both the beginner and advanced photographer for in-person and on-location workshops. The California Center for Photography (previously known as the California Center for Digital Art) is more than a collection of useful equipment, studios, classrooms, and top-flight teachers. We are a student resource for beginners, and a source of inspiration for advanced image/video creators developing

new, or expanding, visual voices. We are a place where students learn to think in visual terms; we ground ourselves in the fundamentals, and revel in those wonderful ‘ah-ha!’ moments when a student grasps concepts that turn into incredible images.

Our Kids Summer Photography Camp (Ages 10-14) is officially open for July 13-17! We’re taking over Downtown Santa Ana for a week of high-energy, hands-on learning.
From mastering their camera settings and studio lighting to field trips at the Santa Ana Zoo, we’re teaching them how to see the world through a professional lens. 🦁🌆

Why should you shoot the Milky Way in Borrego Springs this weekend?

🌌 The Milky Way's core is not visible year-round. Due to the Earth's orbit, the Galactic Center is only visible in the North Hemisphere late-Spring through early-Fall. Right now we are entering "prime" Milky Way season.

🌌 The lunar cycle rules our schedule! Even a minimal amount of light from the moon can create enough atmospheric glare that washes out our view of the stars.

🌌 Borrego Springs located in San Diego county is one of the only 65 certified International Dark Sky Communities globally. There are strict lighting ordinances allowing us to shoot in total darkness but be within a close distance of our hotel and amenities.

🌌Borrego Springs is also home to the Galleta Meadows Sculptures. Over 100 metal sculptures throughout the desert make for the perfect subject in the foreground of our astrophotography.
