Turning 40 has me thinking a lot less about perfection and a lot more about experiences.
A few days ago, on my actual birthday, I went hang gliding for the first time, I still don’t even know if I have the words for it yet. It was freeing and terrifying and beautiful all at once. The kind of experience that makes you feel fully awake and grateful to be alive.
As the years go by, I realize I don’t just want photographs that just show what life looked like, I want photos that remind me how it FELT.
Wind in your hair.
Salt water on your skin.
Kids laughing hysterically.
The chaos.
The movement.
The joy.
Some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken technically aren’t “perfect,” but they make people feel something. Years later, that’s what matters most.
As I enter this next decade, I want to say yes to more adventure, more connection, more presence, and fewer expectations that everything needs to look polished all the time.
Life moves fast.
Document it anyway.
