I used to believe that if you wanted to do meaningful creative work, you had to leave the place you loved to do it. So, I did.
I spent over a decade building brands in California,
from Silicon Valley to Santa Barbara, learning how to build at scale, in cities where I knew no one and no one knew me.
Then the world changed in 2020, and my husband and I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina with a newborn.
I expected limitations outside of a big market like SF or LA or NYC. Instead, I found an entire production ecosystem already here. Talent. Locations. Community. People hungry for creative opportunities. All of it.
So, we started building differently. Camp Digital | Creative Agency was built locally and still creates globally, partnering with brands like Disney, Star Wars, Aura, and P.F. Flyers, right here from Raleigh.
Earlier this year, I shared my story at CreativeMornings/RDU, and the biggest piece of advice I want other creatives to know:
Don’t wait for a creative community to exist. Be the person who helps build it. Be an active participant in making things happen.
Because what makes Raleigh, or your city, special is that YOU get to help shape it.
If you’re looking for a place to start, there are 259 CreativeMornings chapters worldwide, so grab a coffee, and pull up a seat to a creative community that might already exist in your backyard!
