A juvenile great horned owl spreads its wings as it flies from one branch to another. The young owl is getting pretty good at flight, but is still a bit wobbly when landing. ⁣

“Staring into the Evening Sun”

An adult Great Horned Owl gazes at the setting sun, its legs bathed in rays of light that filter through the sky. The sun, still high above the horizon, brings a cool, serene glow over the scene.

Keeping the location private so these owls can continue growing up with minimal disturbance.

“Thanks, mom, but my feathers are clean enough!”

At 9 1/2 weeks old, these young owls still get lots of attention from mom. Grooming their feathers keeps them clean and healthy, even if they give mom that “look”!

A Brown Pelican quickly moved across the water to a new fishing spot. Using a shutter speed of 1/13 second, I photographed the scene in a way that transformed water droplets into fireworks and wing movement into patterns normally invisible to the eye.⁣

Sometimes the fishing is successful, and sometimes you just smile for the camera and pretend everything went according to plan.⁣
