- The Surfacing -

We drown ourselves in our traumas
only to survive the surfacing—
of tears that keep pouring into our lungs,
like water learning our names.

Today, I saw a moth
floating on stillness,
it’s wings—pale confessions—
spreading wider than the ache inside me.

It looked like surrender,
but maybe it was grace—
the kind that comes when you’ve fought too long and finally let the water hold you.

To know the ache of being left behind, and only worse the quiet cruelty of leaving oneself. Of silencing your own voice
to be chosen by someone else.

Abandonment tastes like this—
salt and silence.
Betrayal glimmers beneath the surface,
a reflection pretending to be light.

And yet, even here,
In this quiet drowning,
something in me refuses to die.
The wings still open.
The heart still beats.

Perhaps survival
is how the soul finds its way back home—
one breath,
one flutter,
one forgiven self at a time.

This is the surfacing.
