Hello friends. You’ve seen me grow and morph over time into the otherworldly artist I am today. As many of you know, I’m non-binary. Being a fashion model I dealt with constant dysphoria, especially when my employers were critical of my body and sexualized me. Being objectified for a living was exhausting, and that’s why I retired from full time modeling a several years ago. Fast forward to now, and I got tired of the self employment hustle, it’s really enjoyable but I’d like to have a reliable source of income that I can have as a career where I make a difference in the world. I’m expanding my horizons by going to school to study Biochemistry to become a pharmacist. I just had gender affirming surgery in June, and I’m grateful to be on the mend. Having surgery before this semester started has really given me a run for my money being exhausted while working. I have way less dysphoria now since surgery which has been really distracting while I have been in school. Some classes I feel comfortable with being out about being non-binary and some I don’t because the teacher or the student base is less open and welcoming. Some classes have started to ask for pronouns, which I’ve seen mostly in the arts and humanities side of the school, and am hoping to see it more in the math and science sides where I feel will help welcome more diversity into the STEM fields. I’m excited to be in college again, and am equally excited to transfer to Sonoma State University in a year. I hope as time continues it becomes easier to feel comfortable being out in my classes, and am hopeful that at Sonoma State there will be a thriving LGBTQ community that I can participate in. The LGBTQ community at Santa Rosa Junior college is really supportive and I’ve always felt comfortable being myself inside of that community. I’m sad to leave it but excited to be moving to University education. I’m writing this post to help promote the Transgender First Scholarship, because it’s giving transgender and non-binary people like me a chance to be able to better afford college so that we can have better futures.
