A little sweetness for your Wednesday 💕

It's crazy that this video is over a decade old! It was created to showcase my love and passion of newborn photography.

Watching it today brings back so many memories - the tiny babies, the nervous first-time parents, the families who trusted me to capture one of the most important moments of their lives.

So much has changed since this video was released over a decade ago.... giant newborn flower headbands are no longer in style, this adorable little studio I had in the Birdrock area of La Jolla has since been torn down, my studio is now in Santee and triple the size, my props, fabric and accessory selection has quadrupled, new cameras, lenses, lighting, etc.

On the more personal side, look at my little girls! The tiny toddler girl I am exchanging a pretend potato chip with just graduated high school last week! And can we talk about the fact that we used to run and work out with cords attaching our phones to our headphones? Lol.

What’s amazing is that while so much has changed over the years, one thing hasn’t: my love for newborn photography.

In fact, it’s grown.

Every newborn session still feels like an honor. Every tiny yawn, curled-up pose, and sleepy smile reminds me why I fell in love with this work in the first place.

Over the years, I’ve photographed hundreds of San Diego’s newest little loves, watched families grow, and even welcomed many former newborn clients back with babies of their own. Those relationships mean everything to me.

This isn’t just a job for me. It’s a passion that has shaped my life for more than 17 years.

Thank you to every family who has trusted me with their memories. Whether you were one of my very first clients or you’re expecting your first baby right now, I’m so grateful you’re here.

And if you’re currently waiting to meet your little one, I’d be honored to help preserve these fleeting first days before they become a blur of memories.

From vision to final image.

Every newborn setup starts long before baby is placed in front of my camera. I carefully select each prop, layer textures, choose colors, and plan every detail to create a safe and beautiful scene designed just for your little one.

One of my favorite parts of newborn photography is watching a simple collection of props and blankets come together to create a timeless piece of art for a family to treasure forever. 💚

San Diego newborn photography is all about capturing these tiny details and fleeting moments while your baby is still so small.

The froggy pose has been my favorite since I started my newborn photography business 17 years ago. Recently, this pose has been quite the subject in my newborn photography groups. There are a few videos circulating of this pose being done with absolutely zero support for baby. Meaning, no hands on baby whatsoever. Like zero support. For us seasoned newborn photographers who have extensive training and are absolutely passionate about baby safety in photography, that’s a huge NO. This is one pose that requires 100% support from the photographer as baby cannot naturally hold this position on their own. The weight of baby’s head is too much, the startle reflex is real, and there’s absolutely no way baby should ever be hands off for this particular pose. Support is needed at all times. Sure, the circulating videos look super cute, but please take my word, in addition to the word of thousands of other safety trained and experienced newborn photographers, and RUN if your photographer attempts to mimic those videos. Forrest photographers, it takes maybe five additional minutes in editing to get those two images merged together and aligned properly, but I’d much rather spend all of the time in the world doing it safely than carelessly. Anyway, happy weekend, everyone!

Nope, this isn’t an April fools joke! By the way, happy first of the month!

I’ve been loving these outdoor newborn sessions lately and really miss taking these sweet little babies outside in my old studio. There’s just something so sweet, natural and beautiful about newborn photography outside in nature.

For limited time, I am offering mini outdoor newborn sessions at a pre-selected location. These sessions are for baby only.

Oh yikes, has it seriously been like 3 months since I’ve posted? 😬. It’s been a busy 1st quarter filled with adorable little ones in the studio. I definitely have a ton of catching up to do on here! Anyway, happy spring, everyone!

When my clients arrive to the studio for their newborn photography session, everything is prepared and ready to go. When it comes to table, posing and prop posing, I always have two plans.

Plan A is for a sleepy baby that is ready to be intricately posed without the use of swaddles. This is where we get most of our ‘nakey’ shots with baby posed in those cute little sleepy set ups.

If baby is a little bit older, less sleepy, or just doesn’t want to pose, then we move to plan B, where we bring out the comforting tools such as the swaddle. Swaddling baby keeps them happy and comfortable as it brings back the feeling of being in the womb.

So when planning out all of the different set ups and props for our session, I always plan for both. If plan A doesn’t work, we move right to plan B and either way, achieve amazingly adorable photos! My main priority as your San Diego Newborn Photographer is to capture your little one in the cutest way possible, keeping their comfort and safety as #1.
