Your house does NOT need to look like it belongs in a magazine before I'll photograph you in it.

There can be toys in the corner.

Your throw pillows don't have to coordinate.

And I promise I'm not inspecting your baseboards. 😂

Your home is the backdrop to so much of your family's actual life.

The couch where everyone piles together. Their favorite spot on your bed. The kitchen you've eaten approximately 7,000 snacks in.

That's the stuff I want.

You know what's rude?

Taking family photos one year and then looking at them the next year and realizing YOUR CHILDREN LOOK COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

The round cheeks slimmed out.

The missing teeth grew in.

Someone got approximately four feet taller overnight.

You don't notice all of it while it's happening because you're living right in the middle of it.

And that's exactly why we take the pictures.

Not because anything particularly exciting happened this year.

Because they were THIS version of themselves.

And this version doesn't stick around nearly long enough. ❤️

I just had a conversation with this little baby about which of gymnastics outfits will look best with various hair styles for her first day of class, and how can that be because isn't she still peeking over the top of the crib railing on her tippy toes?!?!

Bring me those kids. 😂

Bring me the one who won't stand still.

The one who needs 15 minutes before they'll talk to me.

The one who thinks fart jokes are peak comedy.

The one who suddenly forgets how to smile like a normal human the second a camera appears.

Your kids don't need to perform for me.

My job is to meet them exactly where they are and photograph your family inside all of that beautiful chaos.

Right now your fall calendar probably doesn’t look THAT bad.

Give it a minute. 😂

Soccer games. School events. Birthday parties. Fall festivals. Halloween. Family visiting. Thanksgiving travel.

One by one, those beautifully empty weekends are about to disappear.

So instead of waiting until October to realize, “WE STILL NEED FAMILY PHOTOS,” let’s get them on the calendar now.

September is one of my favorite months for Charleston family photos, especially at the beach.

Book the photos now.

Then let everything else fight over the remaining weekends. 😉

Hi! I'm Kayla. 👋

If you're new around here, I'm the photographer behind all these sandy toes, wild children and families loving all over each other.

I've been photographing people for more than a decade, and somewhere along the way I realized my favorite photos are almost never the ones where everyone is behaving perfectly.

Give me the belly laughs. The kid who refuses to stand where we put them. The windblown hair. The parents looking at each other like, “Are you SEEING this?” 😂

That's the good stuff.

So if you're looking for perfectly behaved children and 47 minutes of everyone staring at my camera...

I might not be your girl.

We live in Charleston. Your holiday card is absolutely allowed to have bare feet and sandy toes. 😂

If the beach is where your family feels happiest, let's photograph you there.

The people opening your card aren't looking for Christmas decorations anyway.

They're looking at how much those kids have GROWN.

Charleston locals, I’m letting you in on one of my favorite secrets:

September might be one of the BEST months for family photos at the beach.

It’s still warm enough for bare feet and sandy toes, the evenings start feeling a little more comfortable, and summer vacation crowds are beginning to disappear.

And the best part? Your fall calendar hasn’t completely lost its mind yet. 😂

Before soccer, school events, Halloween and holiday plans take over every weekend, get your family photos on the calendar.

For the person in your family who "doesn't really care about family pictures":

I get it.

But here's the thing.

Someday your kids are going to look at these photos and they're not going to care whether Dad wanted to spend his Sunday evening taking pictures.

They're going to see his arm around Mom.

The way he looked at them.

How tiny they were standing next to him.

So bring him.

I promise not to make it painful. 😂

And yes, I'll tell you exactly what to do with your hands.

You already did the hardest part.

YOU GOT EVERYONE IN THE SAME PLACE. 😂

The adult kids coordinated schedules. Someone booked flights. The cousins are all there. Grandma and Grandpa are there. Somehow, miraculously, the entire family has gathered in one location.

Please don't let the only photo of everyone together be the slightly blurry phone picture someone takes after dinner.

Give me an hour.

We'll photograph the entire crew, each individual family, grandparents with their grandkids, siblings, cousins, couples and all those little combinations you don't realize you want until you have them.

You planned the gathering.

I'll make sure you have something to remember it by. ❤️
