Caught the Kaye E. Barker at sunset last night. Did you know the “E” stands for Elaine? It may as well stand for elegant too, because that’s how I’d describe this Barker which has sailed the Great Lakes for 74 years now.

The Queen of the Lakes calls for the queen of sunsets - pink skies hanging over the Soo Locks. Was lucky to capture all 1,013.5’ of the Paul R. Tregurtha this evening along the St. Marys River. Have you seen her during a sunset?

Watching freighters is a great time for self-reflection. We caught some great shots of the Kathy McKeil yesterday while Wrigley took a moment to reflect on life as a golden retriever. The 588’ Kathy McKeil was launched in 1998 as the Algosea and was recently rebuilt in 2025.

A busy day on the St. Marys River as the Queen of the Lakes, the Paul R. Tregurtha, passes fellow 1,000-footer the American Spirit, currently taking up short term residency in Sault Ste.Marie. Look closely through the photos and you’ll spot the CSL Laurentien waiting its turn at the Soo Locks too!
