Awestruck
It’s been a month since the unbelievable aurora display over southern Maine, and I’m still in awe of how truly incredible it was. So fun to see the community out that night, all gazing up at the sky for hours, enjoying and celebrating another powerful solar storm.
Happy Veterans Day, everyone, and be sure to thank the vets in your life for their service!

Summer Harbor Haze
The last time I was able to get out for sunrise, it was a beautiful hazy warm sunny morning. Now in the course of a week, the leaves have changed color in our yard and fallen to the ground. Time flies.
Hope you’re having a great weekend, everyone!

PHL Aurora
It’s been months since I have been on social media or taken any photos as I have been enjoying life as a new dad and trying to take advantage of every minute of parental leave with our baby girl before Liz and I returned to work this week. That being said, there was no way in hell I was going to miss the latest dazzling display of northern lights after not catching the show this past spring. So, with all signs pointing to an amazing light show above last Thursday, I ventured out shortly after sunset and within minutes on my drive to Portland Head Light could see the colors dancing overhead. Upon arriving at the lighthouse, the first of several powerful waves of color was coming to an end, but I spent the next few hours wandering the grounds and hanging out on the rocks watching the greens and reds and pinks come and go in absolute awe. In the dark, I found and out on rocks as well, and we had a great time watching the aurora and probably 50+ people fill in atop the cliffs above where we stood. In fact, in all my visits to PHL at sunrise and sunset, I’ve never seen as many people as there were the night of the northern lights—it was a PHL party and nobody wanted to miss it! Ultimately, I took hundreds of photos of varying intensity of color from multiples angles of the lighthouse, but this long exposure (1.5 seconds) shortly before calling it a night is probably my favorite image of the evening. Such an unbelievably incredible evening, and an experience I’ll definitely remember forever.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve said hi or posted anything, but I hope you’re all doing well and having a great Fall! Thanks for your continued support!

Three of Tranquility
Any time I drive over the bridge in KPT, I always glance over to see how the dories are doing. On my latest pass through town, the water was quiet and still and the boats were all huddled together, so naturally I had to stop for a few pics. Only a few dog walkers and ducks were out and about, so it was a perfect morning to enjoy the view and fresh air as I made my way home slow and steady, one photo stop at a time.
Hope you’re all having a great weekend!

Rainbow Rock
These days, abstract pics of the lines, colors, and patterns of nature are what I find most appealing as a photographer. Challenging to get right, but so enjoyable to look for, images of sand lines, rock patterns, and plant life are frequently becoming the photos I’m most excited about after returning home from my coastal Maine adventures. I recognize they aren’t for everyone, but I find them fascinating, so I’ll keep taking them haha.
Have an awesome Friday, everyone!

Perkins Cove
I’ve always loved Perkins Cove and the small coastal town charm of Ogunquit, Maine in the early hours of the day before the world wakes up. Seeing the lobster boats, draw bridge, and rocky coast from above adds a whole new level of admiration to the mix.
Have a fantastic day, all!

Red Sun
I made a quick tour around southern Maine yesterday, and while my goal for any photo adventure is to come away with at least one keeper, I was excited to come home with a handful of savable, shareable images. This first one (two with the different crops (see comments for other horizontal version)) was taken from Long Sands Beach in York, ME of the rising red sun coming up over Nubble Lighthouse. With smoky skies these last few days, I figured the sun would still do its best to shine through the haze, and sure enough the red star—complete with half a dozen or more sun spots if you look closely—was an impressive sight to see. It would be even more beautiful if it wasn’t so alarming, but I was glad to be able to admire the view with lots of other beachgoers and early risers to start the day.
Have a great start to the week everyone!

Beacon of the East
After traveling to Machias for work a couple weeks ago, I ventured to West Quoddy—the easternmost point in the US—for a quick photo trip after dinner. Leading up to the day, I was hopeful for pretty sunset conditions, but it poured almost the entire trip, and it became clear that a colorful sky was not in the cards. However, upon arrival, the lighthouse and nearby coastal trails were completely fogged in, which in its own way was still stunningly beautiful. Ultimately, I wandered the grounds, took lots of pics, made friends with a few porcupines, and definitely enjoyed my latest trip to one of Maine’s most iconic lighthouses. Any time spent downeast is time well spent in my book. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Meandering Marsh
In the process of getting our one millionth ice cream of the summer at the Dairy Corner last week, I noticed that the smoky sky was beginning to get quite colorful and would likely put on a good show at sunset. So after getting home, I quickly grabbed my flying camera and headed to the marsh to get a view of the curving waterways from above. As I’d hoped, the sky-high perspective was incredible, and I was happy to come away with only a few mosquito bites and another few images of the place I’m lucky to call home. Have an awesome Wednesday, all!
