A recent trip to a local Scott County sunflower field yielded a lot of interesting views. There is a lot of life in these fields, with bees and other insects, as well as wide shots and close-ups of the flowers. This particular shot caught my eye this morning as I was reviewing photos. I hope you enjoy it.

The field visit was with the farmers' permission.

This was my first moderately successful Milky Way Panorama. I have tried one other time and messed it all up. Annie and I were at Monument Rocks, KS on the morning of July 12th and decided to give it a go. This is about 8 or so vertical shots overlapped across the horizon, and stacked with ~8 images per shot for noise reduction. All in all I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

Annie and I went out to do Night skies last week. Initially, we were going to go somewhere else, but I didn't like how it was looking, so we ran up to Monument Rocks and stayed there for a few hours.

This is a blend of a blue hour shot of the rocks and later a stack of night sky images. My goal with a blend is to shoot the subject and the sky without moving the camera. Doing it this way keeps noise down in your subject and preserves colors. Stacking images of the sky is the same goal. Remove noise for better quality.

I hope you enjoy it.

Prints are available of my images. If you are interested in something, feel free to message me.

The old depot in Ness City. On my way home a couple of weeks ago I decided to try to get an angle to capture this neat old building by the tracks.

Tonight's photo is from last fall. I upgraded our macro lenses and my daughter and I were trying them out in our backyard. We have experimented with flash diffusers with our macro photography for some time now and this Citrus Flatid Planthopper was a great subject for us to practice on. They have some incredible texture and definition on their wings. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for looking.

Another from the archives that I have never shared before. This was taken in March of 2024 at Monument Rocks. We spent several hours shooting in the wee hours of the morning. This was from my last set of the night. I haven't done much night sky photography the last couple of years but need to get out again. I so enjoy it when I do. Hope you enjoy it.

Church on Sundays. This is the Methodist church in Bison, KS. A really neat piece of architecture. I'd love to see inside sometime. Anyway, this is from a few weeks ago when my daughter and I did a large tour and saw and photographed 9 churches that day and 10 total that week. This was our last of the day, and it was quite a treat to come across. I hope you enjoy it.

Another re-do from a few years ago that I happened on while looking for something else. Does anyone else get distracted while "on a mission"? This Longhorn was in the grass south of Monument Rocks on an evening while we were leaving the formations. I had to stop and see if I could get a good image. Thanks for looking.

A few weeks ago, my daughter and I went to Lake Scott State Park to photograph the geese (and whatever else caught our eyes). While we were there, the geese did their evening ritual of lining up for take off, then running on the water while vigorously flapping to get airborne. It's a treat to witness.
