A SELF PORTAIT
I took this today after collecting props for a few months and making the brooch covered jacket and brooches myself.
This is not the final rendition since there’s a few things I need to change before I can submit this to competition but I’m too excited about it not to share this version now.
I shot this in studio with my canon R5 connected via WiFi to my iPad. The tricky thing with using canon connect is you have to trigger the camera and connected flashes by pressing the button on the iPad screen. Since I wanted BOTH hands in the photo I put the iPad under the desk and used my toe to do this. It was NOT easy and took more time than you would think to get the pose right with the lighting the way I wanted, the fan lightly blowing and the lighting in the proper position.
The photos on my jacket and on the table are all relatives and ancestors. There are photos of my great grandparents, grandparents parents, aunts, uncles, my late mother in law, my kids and nods to a few of my pets are hidden in meaningful ways. There is a jar of marigold seeds from my grandmas garden and a box of buttons that belonged to my other grandmother. The stack of letters include letters from my favorite Aunt and both of my grandmas. Not everything showed up the way I hoped but once I finish the final version Maybe they will.
