Everything about this session was wholesome and cozy.

It started with a rainy day. Definitely not planned, but we pivoted and it ended up being a blast.

Hunter boots splashing through puddles. Mud pies. Chasing bubbles. And to end our time together, everyone got cozy around the fire pit for s’mores 🔥

Sometimes life throws us a curveball…like a drizzly day instead of the summer glow we hoped for with family photos.

And when I travel out of state for sessions, there really isn’t much wiggle room to reschedule because of weather.

So changing plans is just what we gotta do!

This family rolled with all of it and we had SO much fun.

We played tag in the grass…which ended up being more of a slip n slide 😂

We wandered the garden.

Annnnd they showed me the coolest little zip line Dad made for them in the trees.

The key to having photos that LOOK like you is making sure you’re actually acting like you.

Planning a session around something your family already loves doing together is one of the best ways to have:

1. a lot of fun
2. photos that actually look and FEEL like your family

I know some of us want the Christmas card pic…and sure, you’ll get that.

But that shouldn’t be the reason you book a photographer.

Investing in a photoshoot is investing in your legacy. It’s investing in holding close what means the most to you in this chapter.

Because five years from now, when you come across these photos, you want to smile remembering how the day didn’t go as planned…but somehow, it ended up being even better.

You want to remember building mud pies in the rain, slipping through the grass, and swinging with your love.

Those are the moments you’ll want to hold onto.

I guess this is my formal introduction...except there’s really nothing formal about me.

I’ve lived a few places, gotten myself into some questionable road trip situations, fixed things I probably could’ve called someone else to fix, read approximately a million pages before bed, and spent a lot of time wandering around the woods thinking about life.

And somewhere in all of that, I became a photographer.

Not because I just love pretty pictures. I mean, obviously I do. But photography has always felt a little bigger than that to me.

It’s how I remember things. How I make sense of things. How I notice the tiny stuff that would otherwise disappear.

And I think all these random pieces of who I am sneak their way into my work somehow. The nostalgia. The adventure. The messiness. The stillness. The constantly questioning if I’m making good art part of me.

So hi. This is a little more of the human behind the camera. ♡

Now I wanna know something oddly specific about you. The weirder the better. 😋

I think people are starting to see it…or at least I am.

That in a world full of quick fixes and automated…everything. We are starting to lean into the normal. The unpopular views of our lives. The uninfluencing if you will…we want real. Authentic. Genuine.

Okay, so then why can’t the way we document our families be the same way?

Why do we need to stress over perfection, when “perfect” is how your family already is…just as they are right now.

When I look at family photos from when I was growing up I didn’t see matching outfits or frilly dresses standing in the desert. Quite opposite really…it was jeans and a tee shirt running through a pile of leaves (live in Oregon at that time 😂) or in our swimsuits running through our backyard sprinkler.

There was nothing perfect about those family photos. Yet…they were perfect all the same.

I know I’ve always kinda known this…but I think lately I’ve just been in this mindset that I don’t really care what it says “it should be like.” We can literally do what we want. (Well kinda—law abiding of course!)

But seriously…who cares if everyone is posting the matchy family pics for their “perfect” Christmas card…if that’s not your vibe…I see you.

Because I would rather send a Christmas card that shows my family having a freaking blast doing what we love than forced to stand and smile.

Prove me wrong.
