Sometimes I think we put so much pressure on photos to be perfect that we forget why we’re taking them in the first place.

This Joshua Tree engagement session wasn’t about perfect poses or creating content for social media. It was about slowing down, exploring the California desert together, watching the sun disappear behind the mountains, and simply enjoying this season of life before the wedding.

The best moments weren’t planned.

They happened in between the photos. The laughter while wandering through Joshua Tree. The quiet moments when they forgot the camera was there. The way they naturally reached for each other without being asked.

As the evening turned into sunset, we ended their engagement session with a swimsuit outfit change and some time in the outdoor soaking tubs. It felt less like a photoshoot and more like documenting a real memory as it unfolded.

Those are always my favorite sessions.

Not because they’re perfect, but because they’re honest.

People see a $500 photoshoot and assume photographers are pocketing $500 in profit… and I promise that’s far from reality 🥲

What most people don’t see is everything happening behind the scenes of running a photography business.

That session payment doesn’t just go into my pocket. It goes toward:
✨ taxes
✨ gallery delivery + website fees
✨ editing software subscriptions
✨ camera bodies + lenses
✨ SD cards + hard drives
✨ gas + travel
✨ insurance
✨ props + client setups
✨ advertising + marketing
✨ education + workshops
✨ equipment maintenance/upgrades

And honestly… the biggest thing of all is time.

The actual photoshoot is only a small part of what we do. There’s hours spent planning, location scouting, communicating, answering emails/messages, culling galleries, hand editing, exporting, uploading, bookkeeping, maintaining gear, and everything else that comes with running a business.

Professional photography is a luxury service, and I completely understand it isn’t in everyone’s budget — and that’s okay 🤍 But for the people who choose to invest in it, you’re investing in experience, creativity, time, storytelling, and memories that will outlive all of us someday.

I’ll forever be thankful for the people who trust me to capture such meaningful moments and support this little dream of mine.

A little travel update ✨

I’ll be heading out to the East Coast May 13–23 —
driving through Raleigh → Asheville/Murphy → Greenville, SC → Topsail + Wilmington
(and possibly down to Myrtle Beach)

I’m keeping space open along the way for a small number of sessions and elopements —
the kind that feel like you… not overly posed, not rushed, just real moments in places that matter

No travel fees for anything booked during this window 🤍

Tulip field sessions are here 🌷 (April only)

For a short window while the fields are in bloom, I’m opening a limited number of weeknight sessions (think around sunset time) at the tulip fields in Mount Vernon.

This is one of those seasons that doesn’t last—
the colors, the light, the way everything feels a little softer.
