One of my favorite parts about this job is when couples invite me back into their lives to document a new chapter of their story.

A few years ago, I stood beside these two as they promised forever to each other at Thornewood Castle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last August, we chased the wind along the Washington coast as they celebrated the little life they were waiting to meet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few months later, I walked through their front door and watched them settle into a completely new rhythm. Tiny fingers wrapped around theirs. Quiet moments in the nursery. The kind of love that doesn’t need to be posed because it’s already there.

Watching my couples become parents is something I’ll never take for granted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These photographs aren’t just about welcoming a new baby home. They’re another page in a story we’ve been telling together for years, and I hope one day they’ll look back through every gallery and remember not just what life looked like, but exactly how it felt.

If you’re a Grey’s Anatomy fan, you’ll understand why this wedding had to happen on a ferry.

E had always loved the show, and when it came time to plan their wedding, she wanted to incorporate a piece of the story that had meant so much to her over the years. So instead of a traditional venue, they chose to exchange their vows on a Washington State Ferry with the Seattle skyline slowly drifting behind them.

I still remember watching people realize what was happening.

At first they were just another couple waiting to board. Then the bouquet came out. Family gathered together. An officiant stepped forward.

Before long, commuters became witnesses.

People looked up from their phones. Strangers smiled. Some quietly stopped to watch, and when they shared their first kiss as husband and wife, the deck filled with applause from people they had never met.

For a few minutes, everyone on that ferry became part of their story.

After we docked, we wandered through downtown Seattle for portraits before heading to a cozy pizzeria in West Seattle. Their reception was just as intentional as the ceremony itself, celebrating with incredible pizza made in an imported Italian wood-fired oven, good wine, and the people they love most.

No grand ballroom.
No elaborate timeline.
No pressure to do what everyone else expected.

Just a wedding that reflected who they are and the stories that shaped them.

That’s one of my favorite things about intimate weddings. They give you the freedom to create a day that doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else. It only has to feel like home to the two of you.

If your love story has a place, a movie, a TV show, or a tradition that’s become part of who you are, let that be the inspiration. Those are the weddings people remember.

I was going through old photos today and came across this session from almost 6 years ago.

Looking back, I can see how much has changed. My editing is different, my posing is different, and I’ve learned so much since then. But these photos still make me smile.

This was around the time I was really falling back in love with portrait photography. I wasn’t worried about having the “perfect” style or trying to be like anyone else—I just genuinely loved creating memories for people.

It’s kind of crazy to think that one day I’d be photographing weddings and couples all over the country (and even overseas).

Sometimes it’s fun to look back and remember where it all started. 🤍

One thing I will forever love about destination weddings is that the story doesn’t have to start when you put your wedding dress on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes it starts in white robes, barefoot in your room, opening a bottle of champagne and probably making a bigger mess than you planned.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You traveled all the way to somewhere like Santorini. Give yourself time to actually be there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Slow down. Get ready together. Order the room service. Open the champagne. Walk through the city before dinner. Do something that feels a little random just because you can.
I don’t want to only show up for the perfectly planned part of your day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want the weird little moments. The quiet ones. The slightly chaotic ones. The parts of the trip you didn’t realize would end up being some of your favorite memories.

Because if we’re traveling halfway across the world together, I want to give you more than just pretty wedding photos.

D & B’s story started on a whale-watching tour.

B and his family were guests on the boat, D was working on the ship, and somehow that day turned into the beginning of all of this.

Years later, people traveled from different parts of the country and across the world to stand in one place and celebrate them.

That’s what I keep thinking about when I look back at this gallery.

The girls seeing D in her dress for the first time. The little looks between D & B throughout the day. Family laughing through speeches, getting emotional during the ceremony, and eventually ending the night on a dance floor full of glow sticks.

Wedding days move so freaking fast, and there are so many moments happening around you that you don’t always get to see.

Of course we’re going to take the pretty photos. But I’m also always watching the people who showed up for you, because sometimes the most meaningful parts of your gallery are the moments you didn’t even know were happening.

From meeting on a boat to having everyone they love together in one place—this day felt like a pretty special full-circle moment.

Maternity sessions in the sand have always been an absolute dream of mine.

I’m obsessed with the drama of a massive dress catching the wind, the glam, and getting to try something completely different from the typical cozy studio maternity session.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the soft and intimate sessions too. But there is something about taking a maternity session and turning it into a whole freaking vision that I will never get over. The dramatic dresses, the glam, the location and getting to create something that feels like you haven’t seen the exact same session a hundred times before.

We did this session in March a couple years ago and I fully convinced myself it was going to be cold.

It was almost triple digits.

I had also never been to sand dunes like this before, so there I was carrying my camera gear through the sand and quickly learning that walking up a dune is a freaking workout.

I’m absolutely not the most active person, but I don’t mind a challenge here and there. Especially when this is what we get to create at the end of it.

The heat, the struggle and the sand in my shoes were absolutely worth it.

These are genuinely some of my favorite types of sessions to photograph, and I will take any excuse to create something a little dramatic.

If timeless wedding venues are your thing, add the William Aiken House to your list.

The iconic yellow walls, black shutters, old brick pathways and history throughout the property already make it such a beautiful place to photograph. A little fun fact: part of The Notebook was even filmed here.

What I loved most was how the details worked with the venue instead of trying to change it. Soft florals, black bows, pearls, a live painter and a champagne tower—all simple touches that still felt romantic and timeless.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding venue with history, character and plenty of beautiful little corners to wander off for photos, this one is definitely worth looking into.

One of my favorite things to gift my couples when we do destination weddings is the chance to take photos outside of the actual wedding day.

Especially if you found me somewhere on social media and we’ve never worked together before. We can email, FaceTime and talk as much as we want, but there’s something completely different about actually getting in front of my camera and hanging out for a little bit before the wedding day.

And I’m not saying we need to plan some huge photoshoot 😂

You’re having a welcome party or rehearsal dinner? Let’s sneak away for a little bit before or after. You probably already had your hair and makeup done, you’re dressed cute… why not take advantage of it?

Or we keep it completely casual. Stay at the Airbnb. Snuggle in bed. Have a pillow fight. Throw on your swimsuits and jump in the pool. Walk around the city and see where we end up.

You get to learn how I work and I get to learn the two of you—how you naturally interact, what makes you laugh, what feels like you. So when the wedding day comes around, I’m not just some random person showing up with a camera.

But one of my favorite parts is that you walk away with photos of the two of you just being you. Photos you can print and put around your home that aren’t all in your wedding clothes, but still bring you right back to the trip where you got married.

It’s genuinely one of my favorite things to gift my couples when I travel with them for a destination wedding. More than just photos of one day, but little pieces of the whole experience.
