The Cats that Look at Me
Part 1
He was frightened at first. A bit timid as well. For such a large cat as he, he was black and white. He was black and white. And, on the first damn day…the first day. He jumped so damn high that he quite startled me. He looked over at me from that damned high perch, yes, over me. It was almost as if he was observing, observing me; that’s when I began to observe him, while he observed me. This black and white cat. I knew, yes, I knew, that I wanted to make him mine. And, take him…yes, take him to my home, my home.
They said he was a stray. Yeah…a stray, with an exact date of birth…hmm, that’s what they said. I thought it was quite perplexing since they said, yeah, they said, that he was a stray. Oh, and I should say…Yes I should say, he was a bit flabby too…too flabby for a stray. Hmm…yeah, okay…he was a stray. I decided to take him away, yes away, from that place where the strays go to stay.
He was quiet; almost silent, riding in the car, yes, riding in the car. He was going…yes, going to someplace new…someplace new. A bit unsure as he was riding, yeah, riding in the car. Up the stairs, a step at a time. He was timid…yes, so, so timid.
I opened the box. And, out he came; little by little…step by step; he understood, yes…he understood. I meant him no harm…I meant him no harm…perhaps unlike how the other ones from before, yes, before.
And so, he found a place, a place for himself with a woman who liked rock!...yes, rock. But, she worked, yes, she worked.
Then, at another location, I remember once. I had dropped, yes, I had dropped—the nastiness of his box. Ohhh, I was angry so, so angry; not at him. No, not at him. I was angry with myself. Rushing and rushing to keep the house clean. And yelling, the yelling as he stared at me. But, he did not flinch. He did not flinch.
Then all was done, yes, it was done. I was exhausted, so, so exhausted. The huffing and puffing of my breath. And when I was done, when I was done; I absolutely plopped on my bed, yes my bed.
As I was sitting there, trying to slow the huffing and puffing. Mr. Floofy leap on my bed, he leap on my bed. At first to my right. Then he snuck, then he snuck…to my back then over, yes over to my other side, yes the other side. I wondered what he was doing. So strange, so strange…then, then…he bonked my damn arm!
I started laughing and he laid down, he laid down. Then I stroke the gentle giant. Yes I stroke the gentle giant. The huffing and puffing slowing and slowing; then…the calming; the calming.
But I was working, yes I was working. And, I am sure he was bored, yes bored. When I strayed, strayed away from my home.
