Carissa Starr Photography Carissa Starr is a digital photographer with a background in filmmaking. Carissa Starr is a digital photographer and filmmaker.

A filmmaking background bleeds into her photography to give her fashion, editorial and conceptual shoots a narrative, cinematic feel. With an emphasis on storytelling, the conceptual and editorial genres suit her talents and interests. Carissa has an eye for the dramatic and leans toward strong imagery. Fantastical elements and the surreal appeal to her, as do the gritty and hyper realistic. The n

ewer genres of Cosplay and Steampunk delight her whimsical side, but Carissa has a classical training as well. Her experiences on both sides of the camera allow her to be an excellent director on set for actors or models new to the industry or experienced. She takes a collaborative approach and believes everyone has ideas worthy of sharing, and no idea is unwelcome no matter whose it is. This attitude has given her a reputation of keeping clients and staff at ease and feeling both welcome and part of a team, a reputation of which she is proud.

I will be launching a new website soon. (Links to follow!) I will have a photo gallery on it with some new(er) photos than my current site, but the gallery is smaller and, you may be disappointed to note, it won't be the main focus.

It's a bit thin on content for now overall, just some bones to put up, and quite a bit less dark and serious. (Serious Carissa was so serious...) But I'll be pushing more toward focusing on film, both the writing and making of such.

I hope you'll be on board with me and still support me as I go forward with this endeavor, as it is where my true passion has always lain.

XOXO

Random poll:

If you'd had a photoshoot, would you rather have an 18-month calendar that could then be cut down into frameable prints, or a coffee table photobook?

Came across an article that was mostly silly pictures showing how easily gorgeous girls can make themselves unappealing by something as simple as a bad camera angle and a silly face. So I sought a few *slightly* less silly (slightly) that illustrate the same thing. Models, amateur and pro, as well as photographers need to be mindful of tucked chins, too-big or fake smiles, forced and awkward 'come hithers' and of course bad, unflattering angles and light.

Fantastic work.

I found the music annoying (and the use of the word "hack"...ugh), but some easy, thrifty tricks in here. Some I've done, and a few I should try.

Professional camera accessories can really get expensive. Lenses, filters, tripods and rigs will cost you hundreds - even thousands - of dollars! But you might be able to duplicate those effects using inexpensive, everyday household items.
