This is a tough one.

Unika was at the top of my list to reach out to after moving back to Seattle. And then days… weeks… years passed by.

She had a beautiful soul. Truly a light.

I remember meeting her for the first time at a N.O.W. video shoot. I was brand new, and she had this warm, vibrant energy that was completely contagious. She made people feel seen.

After that, she always showed up for me: for every crazy idea, photo shoot, or scheme we dreamed up. She was that kind of person.

You will be deeply missed, Unika. But your light lives on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing you. 🤍

What an amazing day recording for the Keep It Beautiful audiobook!!

Every time I return to this story, I’m transported right back into those moments with Greg. The conversations. The laughter. The beautiful chaos of creating. Every reading becomes another chance to live it again.

Fifteen years after this journey began, it still surprises me how alive these memories are.
Recording them in my own voice feels like visiting an old friend.

What a gift this project has been. I can’t wait to share the next chapter with you. 🎧🦋🎙️🎹

15 years.
That’s how long this journey has been.
Today I opened my very first copy of KEEP IT BEAUTIFUL: Inside the Funkiverse of Shock G & Digital Underground.
What started as conversations, road trips, interviews, photographs, drawings, stories, laughter, and countless hours of collaboration with Greg became something bigger than I ever imagined.
This book is part memoir, part art book, part scrapbook, and part love letter to one of the most creative minds in hip hop.
Seeing it in my hands for the first time was emotional.
Thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life, especially Greg, whose voice, artwork, humor, and spirit fill every page.

One of the greatest gifts of working on the Shock book has been the people I’ve met along the way.
I didn’t really know back in the day, but recently we started talking more. He gave an interview for the book, and even over the phone, you could feel his warmth, light, raw humor, & realness. That DU energy.
I was really looking forward to knowing him more - expecting to spend time together in Oakland at Feed the hood and the book release.
Hearing the news yesterday caught me off guard. It hit me hard.
Cleetis was one of those people I always pictured when I thought about the Digital Underground family - just part of that circle, naturally. That spirit Shock had of bringing people in, making it feel like family… Cleetis carried that.
After our interview, he told me, “Anything you need, you know we got you.” And he meant it.
It’s a reminder to not wait. Take the time now. Squeeze someone you love.
