Seattle Art Fair — Day 4

As the Seattle Art Fair comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who stopped by the Shift Gallery booth this weekend. Whether you spent a few moments with the work, asked thoughtful questions, shared your own interpretations, or took a piece home, I’m grateful for every conversation.

This year’s presentation included selections from my Signal to Noise series, an ongoing body of work that examines information, perception, and the ways meaning is constructed through material, image, and object. Seeing people engage with the work, make unexpected connections, and share their own perspectives is one of the most rewarding parts of exhibiting.

A heartfelt thank you to Shift Gallery and its members for another outstanding presentation. Special thanks to our curator, Jo Mikesell, whose vision, organization, and dedication made this exhibition possible. I’m also grateful to the Seattle Art Fair for bringing together such an incredible community of artists, galleries, collectors, and visitors. It has been an honor to be part of this year’s fair.

Day 3 at the Seattle Art Fair.

This 18”x24” two-screen, hand-pulled silkscreen print is from an edition of 10. The imagery is based on industrial forms arranged into a Rorschach-like composition. Like the classic inkblot test, it invites viewers to search for meaning in an intentionally ambiguous image. But instead of psychology, the source material comes from the visual language of industry, manufacturing, and consumption.

The print is directly connected to the ceramic vessels in my Signal to Noise series. Many of the forms carry fragments of these same industrial images, wrapping around objects that reference commodity, value, and the systems we build around them. Together, the prints and ceramics explore how our understanding of the world is shaped by the images, symbols, and information we consume every day.

Day 2 at the Seattle Art Fair.

One of the works in my Signal to Noise series is this Soy Commodity Vessel.

The colored stripes aren’t decorative. They’re a custom visual language I developed. Each stripe represents a letter, with the thinnest stripe corresponding to A and the widest to Z. Together, the sequence of stripes spells SOY, embedding the commodity directly into the surface of the vessel.

I’m interested in how information can be encoded, hidden in plain sight, and interpreted differently depending on whether we know how to read it. Like so much of the information we encounter every day, meaning isn’t always immediately visible.

Day 1 at the Seattle Art Fair.

I’m excited to be exhibiting with Shift Gallery at this year’s Seattle Art Fair.

The work I’m showing is from my ongoing series, Signal to Noise, which examines the systems, infrastructures, and technologies that shape our lives, often operating just beyond our awareness.

The exhibition includes hand-built ceramic vessels and layered silkscreen prints drawn from industrial and technological imagery. The vessels reference manufactured forms and commodity culture while embracing moments of fracture, erosion, and transformation. The silkscreens mirror and abstract mechanical structures, blurring the line between machine, architecture, and icon.

Together, these works explore the tension between order and entropy. They ask what information we amplify, what we ignore, and how meaning emerges from the overwhelming volume of signals that surround us.
