Snippets of my motherhood minis featuring a few dads, because aren’t dads a part of motherhood too? 🩵
I love doing motherhood sessions, the images that come out of them are always so special. These in particular were minimal, mostly black and white, and mostly candid.
My goal for these mini sessions was to try simplifying them down to bare bones, and challenge myself to portray the relationships between my subjects without the noise of props or pretty flowers.
Often images coming out of mini sessions can feel so repetitive and predictable with the backdrop, props, and mostly the setting creating the beauty of the images. The pose might be basic with the subjects standing still and smiling at the camera, but the photo looks great because they are standing in front of a beautiful display of flowers!
Absolutely nothing wrong with a beautiful backdrop and a floral display. I love it as much as the next photographer and don’t plan on stopping utilizing it in future minis. But as an artist, it can often seem like the easy way out. The prettier the backdrop, the less work I’d have to do to think of poses and create interest and value in the images I take.
So taking away the beautiful flowers, fun props, pretty outfits and patterns and accessories, I was able to challenge my creativity to go beyond the backdrop and beyond the outfits and beyond the colors, to focus on interactions and connection.
Utilizing angles, light, and minimally encouraging genuine interactions between my subjects, I realized the value of photographing authenticity. I grew as an artist this day. I love love love the results, and hope you all can appreciate it too ❤️🔥
Do you all love the black and white images or colored images in this thread more??
