Today's rose is "Shakespeare Garden Eglantine" an Eglantine introduced by Huntington pre-1983. This white seedling appeared in the old Shakespeare Garden at the Huntington in San Marino California. A hybrid, perhaps derived from Damask as well as Sweet Briar; extremely valuable for its pure white coloring. Modest display of hips and mild fragrance.

Here is Papa Gontier, a Tea introduced in 1883 by Nabonnand. Large, semi-double, cupped flowers of dark pink shaded crimson, an abundant bloomer that cleanly drops its petals; somewhat spreading branches and nodding fragrant blossoms.

Our rose for today is Polynesian Sunset, a Hybrid Tea introduced in 1965 by Boerner. Large, strongly scented blooms of coral-orange shading to apricot with an overlay of light orange. The rose Diamond Jubilee has received much praise for having influenced a line of modern Hybrid Teas; Polynesian Sunset is one of those directly descended from it.

Here is Princesse De Lamballe, an Alba introduced pre-1830. Very lovely flowers of pure white tinted blush or cream, double, revealing stamens in the partly closed center, named for the lady-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette. A strong grower, someties rather tall and upright. Fragrant.

Today's rose is Old Port, a Floribunda introduced in 1990 by McGredy. Bourbon-like flowers, globular, large, fragrant of deep violet shaded crimson, petals rolled back tightly at the edges. Waxy, pewter green foliage is very attractive and adds to the mauve picture.

Here is Mrs. F. W. Sanford, a Hybrid Perpetual introduced in 1898 by Curtis/Sanford. The pale silver-pink sport of Mrs. John Laing, with all of her fine qualities of form, fragrance, and repeat-flowering.

Here is Richmond, Climbing, a Climbing Hybrid Tea. The climbing form of this famous rose is an important parent in the breeding of red Hybrid Teas. Richmond's flowers are intensely saturated scarlet with a velvety quality, shading to rose pink at the petal bases, reversed rose-crimson. Fragrant.

Our rose for today is Alpine Sunset, a Hybrid Tea introduced in 1974 by Cant. One of the loveliest of HTs; peach-pink satiny petals with a pale apricot reverse, the whole glowing with light and a complexity of colors; compact growth to 3'. Fragrant.

This is Pink Lustre, a Hybrid Tea introduced in 1957 by Verschuren. Immense flowers of many perfectly scrolled petals; soft creamy-pink with lavender-pink edges, richly Tea scented. This seedling of Dame Edith Helen has much of her incredible perfection of form, but blooms more heavily.

Here is Captain Christy, Climbing a Climbing Hybrid Tea introduced by Ducher in 1881. Large flowers of soft silvery pink, with an old rose fullness. Very fragrant. We are not certain this is correctly named.
