Reflections from the Way Back Files
Whenever I wrap up a prolonged, stressful project, I take a moment to decompress — to breathe, reflect, and perform a quiet postmortem on the experience. That process always leads to introspection and, inevitably, a trip down memory lane.
(Pardon the resolution — these images are old, scanned from 3×5 prints.)
Digging through the Way Back Files, I rediscovered a series from my time with the Animal Actors Guild — one of the most extraordinary chapters of my early career. Working with the AAG wasn’t just about photographing incredible animals; it was about connecting with them. Each shoot felt like stepping into the world’s most exotic petting zoo, where instinct met artistry and every creature became a collaborator.
Those moments remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place — the thrill of interaction, the privilege of presence, and the timeless beauty of capturing life in motion.
