Watching this tulip painting come to life reminds me why I love working in pastel — every stroke builds depth, light, and texture in such a beautiful way.

This original piece, "Tulips", is now available, along with fine art giclée prints for collectors who’d love a touch of spring beauty in their home. 💕

The beautiful tulip symbolizes unconditional love and rebirth, while pink tulips represent affection, caring, good wishes, and joy. Although they are in bloom for a relatively short period of time, seeing them brings joy to my artist’s heart.

While visiting Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, IN, I was drawn to this group of pink tulips growing outside the general store building, and took a photo of the gorgeous blooms. I am proud to share the pastel art I created from that image.

I've been an artist my whole life, and I got my start in portrait photography back in 1999 as a way to get high quality reference photos for my artwork. I studied photography in college as part of my bachelor's degree art curriculum and opened my portrait photography business in 2013.

After taking a break from client photo sessions to focus on my artwork and raise my family, I'm excited to offer timeless family and portrait photography again! In addition to providing art commissions, I'll be opening up a limited number of family and portrait photo sessions starting this summer.

"This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." – Psalm 118:24

Oliver is our kind, gentle-hearted, and cheerful son who is receiving his First Holy Communion later this month. Always joyful and eager to help, Oliver has an inner beauty that radiates outwardly.

In celebration of Oliver receiving this holy and blessed sacrament, we took formal photographic portraits together, and I created this pastel portrait from one of the photos from our session.

There’s something so special about capturing a child’s First Communion—the quiet joy, the innocence, and the deep sense of faith in such a meaningful moment.

These custom pastel portraits are created to preserve that beauty forever, turning a once-in-a-lifetime day into a timeless work of art your family will treasure for generations.

Here, sweet Tess is radiant with the light and love of Christ as she prepares to receive her First Holy Communion. I would love to create a similar work of art for your family.

If you’re looking for a heartfelt, heirloom-quality way to remember your child’s First Communion, I would be delighted to create something just for you.

Annie Dash Studios is now booking First Communion portraits. Message me to reserve your spot or visit the link below to learn more.

My son, Victor, is one of my favorite Valentines. I painted this pastel portrait from a reference photo I took of him when he was 4 years old... he'll be 16 this year. Time passes, but art is enduring. I hope he enjoys this piece well into his golden years, so that he can remember how loved he is.

I'm wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful Valentine's Day.

This portrait is from one of my favorite photos of my son, Victor, which I took at Valley View Farms when he was just 4 years old. I love that it captures his countenance and his curiosity. Seeing the finished portrait brings me back to one of my happiest memories of his childhood.

Here are a few video clips of my process for creating "Our Savior", 9.5x12" in pastel.

I started with a simple pastel pencil drawing in sepia and layered violet and umber pan pastels, followed by many layers of alternating complimentary tones, including yellows, blues, greens, reds. After the , I used soft pastel sticks, and finished with pastel pencils for the details.

May Our Lord's peace be with you this Christmas and into the New Year.
