Love, hate, hate, love, me, models and studios.

photographed in-studio, with SL2-S, 90mm Summicron.

I love shooting in studios with a model like Precious. She brings emotion, feeling and story... and that blank wall does what it was meant to do all along. Provide a frame, where together model and photographer work to make you the viewer feel something through posing, expression, posture, lighting, camera angle and exposure.

I used to say "I hate studios." but I'm realizing that it's not the studio so much, that I dislike. It's the feeling of deflation and disappointment from the process of shooting a model in a studio who won't put themselves out there and can't bring something more than wardrobe to a shoot, who expect a blank wall to do the work for them.

white on white wit one of my favorite people. Almost nothing does to these images, just a simple film profile (very different from a filter) and some light background touch up.

I love working with diminishing light, and Olivia likes working with me enough to help make these shots.

Sunsets, and post-sunset are some of my favorite times to have a camera in hand. The colors change so fast that you don't even try to update the temperature in the camera, just shoot the scene well, make a nice exposure and then adjust color when you get it on a computer. It's one of the "short-cuts" we have to work with in digital imaging, and probably one that I will default to using the most in the interest of saving time.

I give you Color!

THIS IS NOT a campaign assignment, THERE IS NO affiliation with either brand, no money exchanged, no endorsement.
Nothing other than a design exercise for me. Because it's fun. Because I can.

This is shot in studio at the joint in Shelby Township, MI (aka - very north Detroit) Some photoshop work on this one (at least far more than I normally do) including background clean up, background recolor, hair removal and clean up, shadow reconstruction, color adjustment, contrast adjustment, sharpness adjustment, film grain adjusted.
