I have this monitor listed through Marketplace, but I thought I'd share it here as well in case any of my peers might see it here and be interested in it. Great monitor, but it just doesn't mesh well with my new laptop.

I'm selling this DELL U4320Q monitor. It is in pristine condition and works as new. It worked perfectly with my previous laptop, but the TrueColor display output on my new laptop does not interface with this for the color fidelity I require as a professional photographer and videographer. Despite many efforts with color calibration, I cannot get my laptop and this monitor to match (or come close enough to satisfy me). It sells new for right at $1000 through a variety of outlets. The used market on eBay has multiple units for $550+. This is a steal for a gamer or others who require graphic intensive displays. Despite what the listing says, I will NOT ship. Must pick up locally in Sheridan, WY.

If you have ever spent time exploring ridgetops in the Bighorn Mountains, you'll appreciate this video as I take you into one of the "slot" canyons found along those ridgetops. For those unfamiliar with the concept, the limestone and Dolomite (an expert is certainly welcome to chime in and tell me specifically which these are!) formations are exposed to the elements. Over time, as the rock dissolves, gaps between different chunks of rock create slot canyons that undulate across and through the rocky outcropping. Many times, these canyons are nothing more than clefts that are impassable without climbing or technical equipment. Many times they are blocked by obstacles such as wedged boulders, dead trees, or narrow gaps too tight to navigate. Additionally, in spite of a summer such as the one we just experienced, gripped firmly by drought and well-above average heat, some of these cracks hold snow indefinitely. Follow along with this video as I take you into one of those phenomena that I discovered this weekend. Happy Friday and holiday weekend ahead!

This image comes to you from a small area of badlands right at South Pass and features some incredibly cool textures. Red Canyon, which lies south and a bit west of Lander as one travels towards South Pass, is renowned for wildflower displays in the upper meadows in late May and early June. This year due to drought conditions, by the time I made it to the area on June 23, the grass was dry and brown. I still love the backdrop and vista from the overlook and incorporated the Game and Fish informational sign into this capture. Wyoming's wildlife and the lands that they call home are beautiful.

Due to drought conditions, the Bighorn wildflower bloom this year was significantly subdued. The wildflowers were there, but lupine stood just 4-6 inches tall instead of the 16-20" of last spring. Most other flowers were also stunted in size and appearance. It was nice to have a few make an appearance in this view of Twin Buttes near Burgess Junction in June.

Happy Friday!

Today's image comes to you from June 16 this past summer as sunset unfolded across the Bighorn Mountains near Bald Mountain. There is a large pullout off the highway near the entrance to Devil's Canyon Road, and as I left the Medicine Wheel parking lot, I could tell the sky may do something special, so I did not head back to camp, which was at Bull Creek along the North Tongue, and pulled into the parking area instead, where I was privileged to watch the clouds and the sun engage in a mesmerizing dance of color and light. Very near that pullout is a rocky outcropping, and there is a little hole through one of the rocks. I waited until the sun emerged from below the clouds and placed my camera where I could line it up with the hole. Using a small f-stop (f22) I was able to create the sunstar shining through the hole as the sky blazed above. It was a memorable and incredibly beautiful sight.

I'm staying with the back-to-school theme today after my first day with new students yesterday. If you haven't spent time in my classroom, this post may not make a lot of sense, because when I am out of my classroom, I present quite differently. In public, I'm generally quiet, respectful, and measured in the way I interact with others. In the classroom...not so much. My reputation as an instructor is based on high energy, crazy humor, and non-stop jokes, especially of the pun variety.

I always start the first day with a bang, and many of my new students today had that deer-in-the-headlights look, or in this instance, fawn-in-the-lens look as they shoot glances at friends around the room. I love interpreting those glances in my mind: Who is this guy? Is this guy for real? How does an old dude with gray hair and goatee have this much energy? Can I crawl under my desk? Is it safe to laugh at these jokes? Is he crazy? Maybe this class will be fun?

I have a hunch that this little fawn had its own set of questions running through its head as I photographed it lying in the grass near a sagebrush bush very near the Burgess Junction Ranger Station back in June. I'll let you hazard a guess as to what they might have been!

Here's to a schoolyear filled with many smiles, joy, and laughter, and even a few funny looks!
