I had the honor and privilege to attend a birth with recently. and I had been together for two other births with this mama, so I was especially happy to be invited to be present for this new soul’s entry into the world. What a joy to be back at Center For Birth for this welcoming!

I’d love to photograph YOUR family!

I recently received this review from a family session I did last month. It was a little different for me as it focused on 3 adult sisters (one with two young daughters) who don’t often have a chance to be together. My client wrote, “Thank you, Lynn! My sisters, daughters, and I had a great experience working with you . . .We put together a Mother's Day gift for our mom and she just called in tears -- she loves the photos so much!”

When someone says my photographs made someone cry, I get more excited than ever about doing more of this work! What family memories would you like to capture?

I’m booking through the summer. Contact me now to talk about the memory you’d love to capture! [email protected]

I wanted to share an example of one of the services I’m offering as a newborn photographer. A mini-session lasting about 45 minutes to an hour, a family can book for me to come to their home when their older children will meet the new baby.

I met this beloved family when they were expecting this little girl when I was still at . I had been their doula and photographed that birth two years ago, and when they conceived the new little one, they wondered whether I could provide doula services and photograph the next birth, especially given the choice of a planned cesarean. I explained what this would look like and will share some of the lovely photos from that birth with another post.

We had planned all along that I would go to their home when discharged so that I could photograph this big sister meeting her new little sister. As it turned out, the discharge happened late in the evening so, she would already be asleep when they arrived home. As I will do for any family, we arranged for me to arrive at their home at 6:30 am the next morning so I would be there to photograph the action when the toddler came in to meet the newborn.

This has always been one of my favorite parts of birth and newborn photography. I still remember a photo I took at a home birth about 13 years ago when 5 older children woke up at sunrise to find the baby just born and all came barreling onto the bed to meet the baby. I still get teary eyed thinking of that moment and others like it.

Please refer your clients and friends who might be interested in my birth and newborn photography and reach out if you have any questions.

One of my favorite “first moment” photographs! Taken at moments after a lovely water birth.

Those of you who follow me on FB know that I’ve recently unplugged my new web site and branded myself as Lynn Hughes Photography. I retired from catching babies a year ago, attended a few births as a doula/photographer (also assisted at a few) in 2022, and had knee replacement surgery which I spent the summer recovering from.

Now I can’t wait to move full swing into lots of newborn photo sessions and occasional birth photography (ie no overlapping due dates). From time to time, I may take on a doula/photographer client but that is not the focus of my business. I have also started booking some outdoor family sessions for the spring.

Aside from my expertise and comfort with babies and birth, I am setting myself off by offering something that I think few newborn photographers do - being on call for you for two unique types of newborn sessions.

A twist on the “Fresh 48” that I’m thrilled to offer are first meetings with siblings. Capturing the reactions of older children when they meet the new baby is something I love. Since siblings are usually not able to visit in the hospital in the COVID era, I can arrange to come to the home, if logistically feasible, right when the family arrives home or when the other children will first be introduced to the baby. One of my 2022 clients was arriving home in late evening after her 2 yo was already asleep, so I arrived the next morning at 6:30 am to capture the very first reactions to her new sister. What a delight!

In addition, if someone is not interested in having the entire labor and birth photographed, I am willing to arrange to be on call to arrive just before the birth and be present for those amazing first photos when the family first lay eyes on their new baby.

This photo is one I especially love as this precious new baby is gazing into the eyes of her parents only about 15 minutes after being born.

Thank you for spreading the word about my business! Check out my web site, and join my email list for a discount on your first service with me.
