When I was younger, I dreamt of working in marketing, to be on a team of creatives in the corporate world. I got there, things were fast and exciting. I felt important and cool and adult-y.
After falling in love with storytelling, going overseas and deciding that the corporate world was not for me—I ended up here. Taking photos at weddings and having so much fun I just couldn’t believe that I was getting paid to eat cake and dance to great music and witness love stories weekend after weekend. As a girl in my 20’s it was so adventurous and unexpected and full of joy.
Now I’m 31. I’m a mom. Life looks quite slow, holding tiny hands as we walk to the car. Making breakfast and reading books and building lots of Legos. Time outside on the trampoline, picnics in the yard and watching the baby birds in the nest on our eaves.
Things feel so precious. I’m in wonder at the morning light and the flowers blooming. I walk into wedding days with a groundedness and slowness that I didn’t used to have. I notice the kids and the way they look at their nana during family photos. I notice the bridesmaid who is dressed up for the first time since having her daughter. I notice the bride who is still someone’s daughter, too.
And I come home to slow time with my kids, a luxury I will never take for granted. To make art with them and explore the world with them until the next wedding day arrives.
I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you :) for this job I could’ve never dreamed of but that you all have trusted me with. I’m a better mom because of it. ✨
