After a truly grueling year in Brooklyn, I will be moving back to South Dakota at the end of May. Moving home, I’m aching to being photographing again, but likely with a fresh approach.

This summer I’ll be focusing on passion projects, aiming to create artwork that redefined my own perspective. A few of those will be my own, but I’d love to open the floor to others who need a photographer as well. If you have an artistic vision, please reach out — I’d love to collaborate!

I will be available for bookings — mostly second shooting weddings (let me know if you need me fellow photogs!) and for limited shoots that resonate with the direction I see Yours, Ashton going. More on this later, though.

All this to say, I’ll be around this summer (and for the foreseeable future) and more than anything else, I hope to create deeply and honestly and in collaboration with all my fellow human beings.

The final set for now.

Being in people’s space is such a special thing. Familiarity not only eases the pressure of having a camera in your face, but it also sets the environment for photos that go that much deeper. Photos in a space that’s yours are photos you’ll look back on in your later years of life and think “that was us.”

As I’ve navigated who I want to be not only as a photographer in particular but as a person in general, I’ve realized how much that being revolves around real moments.

I see beauty in genuinely everything, and especially in the raw, natural moments that come up in people being together. To me, photography is so much about honing into the real that happens without my input versus directing a moment to be “photo-worthy.”

It’s the brushing away of hair or the way hands find each other or the catching of eyes. People are meant to live within arms reach of each other and I feel like it’s my life’s passion and dream to document the goodness that comes out of us doing exactly that.

Digging through my 2023 portfolio as I gather inspiration for the coming year, starting with some favorites from my time with (whose words, eye for beauty, and pure magic continues to inspire me daily!!!).

For me this year is about human connection and the stories it writes. It’s about listening to those stories and responding with a visual that truly sees the stories subjects. It’s about color and shape, perspective, honestly, emotion, and an artful approach to all the above.

Moving to New York has exposed me to stories that I never could have dreamt up myself and I can’t wait to begin documenting them. 🕊️

I’m about a week late, but here’s to 2023 — one of the most creatively inspiring years of my life. It was the year of trying new things and connecting with my fellow creatives — one couldn’t exist without the other. I’m in a period of rest and thought right now, but I’m eager to get behind the camera, deep in people’s stories. To another year of honest moments and beautiful things. 🥂

We’re due for a reintroduction.

Yours, Ashton is a brand born over six years ago out of my little 17 year old brain. It’s evolved throughout the years, but what has remained the same is the belief and pursuit of honest and beautiful things. Based in NYC (with availabilty to travel, always), this space offers a photo experience for everyone from brands to couples to families to individuals.

The heart of what I do finds it’s rhythm in honoring the real story. I believe with my entire being that art is in everything and I don’t want to let a moment go by without seizing the beauty and giving it a rightful place within your history through documentation.

I use perspective, color, shape, and an understanding of who you are to offer photos that take it all into consideration and do it justice. I have a track record of never showing up to a session without having shared a cup of coffee first. I do this because I want to support people, to celebrate them, to champion who they’ve been and are becoming.

Documentation is important. Being seen is important. Yours, Ashton exists to see you as you are, document honestly, and leave you feeling as celebrated as possible in the process.

it’s been a while since i’ve shared a senior session but as soon as i took this photo i knew it would be one for the feed.

my photography journey started with seniors and that feels fitting because so much of senior year is about dreaming over who you are and who you want to be, what you want to do and how you want to exist in the world. making beautiful things was my 17 year old dream, and i get to do it and call it a living now.

it’s especially great when i get to meet the most beautiful, brilliant souls out there (all you ) and be let in on a little part of their life.

i say it way too often (or maybe just often enough???) but this job is a gift.
