Like Native Americans of the past we not only find the beauty of Severe Weather when it happens but the Spirituality that comes with it. Native Americans believed in the wind spirits and what would h
appen if angered. Native Americans saw rainstorms as a positive thing, if the spirits were satisfied, then rain would come and replenish the earth to help make things grow for their people. In another sense, a severe storm such as one that produced a tornado meant that the spirits were angered and things must change, or that it was a cleansing of the earth for rebirth. We know that in the Native American culture they respect all things natural. We too believe that the wind and weather has a mind of it's own. In the "Capturing the Spirit of Severe Weather" we want to use photography to capture the Beauty and Severity of Nature in all it's glory and furry. The Beauty of a sunset reflecting it's colors across a still lake or a distant thunderstorm to the Furry of lightning streaking across the night sky watching it jump from cloud to cloud like electricity jumps from the bolts of a Jacob's Ladder. Weather has two sides, two personalities...the nurturing, giving side of a mother being kind and forgiving and then in an instant can cause pain and fear like the discipline and sternness of a father. So the next time you see the white billowing clouds in the distance towering towards the deep blue sky and the sound of a thousand buffalo thundering across the plains, think of how the Native Americans saw it. We wish to educate the public to not fear Severe Weather but to respect it and to know when to seek safety and shelter. Respect of the Weather and all it's beauty and furry during Storm Chasing is very important. You must have a deep respect for the Weather and your surroundings. Safety for my Crew and I is always number one.
