MarvelUs Moments Nature and wildlife photographer and a self described earth nerd, endlessly curious about how landscapes, weather, and living systems interact.

I am a nature and wildlife photographer and a self described earth nerd, endlessly curious about how landscapes, weather, and living systems interact. I love life in all its forms, a perspective shaped deeply by my primary occupation as an ER registered nurse, where I witness both the fragility and resilience of living beings every day. Photography is where that awareness finds balance. I am drawn

to quiet places and fleeting moments where light, atmosphere, and land briefly align, often favoring subtlety over spectacle. I spend time learning a place before photographing it, allowing conditions to unfold naturally rather than forcing an image. Fog, overcast light, and transitional moments are recurring elements in my work, inviting a more contemplative experience. Beyond making images, I am invested in conservation and stewardship. My work is rooted in respect for the natural world and a belief that understanding and connection are essential to protecting it. Through my photographs, I aim to create honest, immersive images that encourage curiosity, care, and a deeper appreciation for the environments we share.

Finally got our first look at the SBCC eagle chicks for 2026! 🦅 We spotted at least two in the nest, already active, moving around, and looking strong and healthy.

If you listen closely, you’ll hear mom and dad conversing together👂

Once again, SBCC is showing off its incredible wildlife and natural beauty. It’s so much more than just a golf course. SBCC is, no doubt, the most beautiful place in St. Joseph County.

High on Sahale Pass in the North Cascades, a mother mountain goat rests beside her kid beneath a leaden sky. Against vast, rugged peaks and deep glacial valleys, their quiet closeness feels both fragile and resolute. A moment of shelter and trust in a landscape shaped by wind, stone, and time.

✨ Hiding a galaxy of stars in those hypnotizing eyes ✨
This Burrowing Owl photographed in Naples, Florida displays an unusual eye coloration. Typically, Burrowing Owls have bright yellow eyes that help them spot movement in open landscapes. In this individual, the eye shows heavy speckling and darker pigmentation, giving it a mottled appearance instead of a solid yellow. Researchers are still unsure what causes these eye color variations. Since Burrowing Owls in this area do not migrate, limited genetic diversity may play a role.

The little but mighty boreal owl is one of the forest’s best-kept secrets, and stumbling across it felt like pure magic. Quiet, elusive, and absolutely adorable, it was one of those moments that makes you stop and whisper thank you to the woods.

Owls have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, they appeared in my dreams, lived in the trees behind my house, and called out to us as we played in the woods of my backyard. Their presence felt familiar and grounding, shaping a sense of wonder that stayed with me.
Over the years, I’ve been drawn to their quiet power and nocturnal nature. To me, owls represent wisdom, watchfulness, and a strength that doesn’t need to be loud. Seeing this great gray owl feels like a continuation of that lifelong connection. This photo captures the first time I ever saw a great gray owl in person, a species I’ve been fascinated by for years. Masters of camouflage and migrants from the north, they carry an almost mythical presence.
This moment feels like the natural world reflecting something deeply personal. A reminder that certain symbols walk beside us through life. This great gray owl feels like a bridge between waking life and childhood dreams, urging trust in what’s unseen, patience in movement, and respect for the wisdom that has always been there.

Rooted in the high desert of Mesa Verde, this juniper tree stands as a quiet testament to endurance. Its twisted limbs trace the memory of wind, and its roots grip the sandstone as if holding on to time itself. It asks little of the land, only thin soil and scarce rain, yet gives so much in return through shelter, shade, and the steady presence of life where survival is never guaranteed.
Growing slowly, century by century, the juniper stands as a keeper of stories. It has witnessed ancient footsteps, shifting seasons, and patience etched into its bark. In a landscape shaped by endurance, this tree is not just alive. It is listening, remembering, and remaining. 🌿

Resilience in the High Country

High above Telluride, Colorado, the craggy alpine rocks tell a
story of survival. Lichen clinging to stone is a symbiotic partnership between a fungus and algae (or cyanobacteria), working together to survive where few organisms can. Some lichen species can live hundreds to thousands of years, slowly breaking down rock and helping create the first traces of soil. The jagged, weathered stone reflects years of wind, ice, and extreme temperature swings. Tucked into a narrow crack, a small alpine flower finds just enough shelter, moisture, and nutrients to bloom; proof that life adapts even in the harshest conditions.
A quiet reminder of resilience in Colorado’s high country.

Steel and sky meet on the shores of Lake Superior.

Marquette’s historic ore dock stands quietly beneath passing clouds; a reminder of the Upper Peninsula’s deep mining roots, where industry, water, and wild beauty have learned to coexist.
