Just sent off another senior gallery for Natalie!

It was one of those hot July evenings where jumping in the lake sounded like a great idea... until you actually got in. The water wasn't exactly warm, but sometimes you've just got to do whatchu gotta do to get the shot.

Summer is flying by, and senior year will be here before we know it. If you're still needing senior pictures, now's the time to get them on the calendar!

I’m running behind! 😭

This is my office. My dark, hot office, currently running off a 50-foot extension cord plugged into our garage, our only source of power for the last week.

Long story short, we lost power when our electrical service was damaged and the transformer failed, literally burning the box to a crisp. Because it’s such a major repair, everything has to be inspected and approved by the city before power can be restored. Living in a tourist town during peak season, in the middle of a heat wave, hasn’t exactly helped move things along.

All that to say, my editing queue is starting to back up. I can do some things, like culling, cropping, and removing distractions, anytime. But I rely on consistent, natural light when I’m making final color and exposure adjustments, and working in a dark house has really limited the hours I can do that accurately.

If you look out the window from my office today, you’ll see a big utility truck that pulled up about an hour ago. We’re crossing our fingers that everything gets approved and the lights come back on today.

My normal turnaround is about three weeks for family and senior sessions and six weeks for weddings. If you’re right around that timeframe, your gallery is likely almost finished, but it may end up being a few days later than usual.

The good news is that as soon as the power is back, I’m planning an editing marathon to get caught up as quickly as I can.

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding. Now let’s hope today is finally the day! 🤞

My turn for family pics!

My mom and stepdad are celebrating 40 years of marriage this year, and to celebrate they rented a cabin on a lake here in Michigan for the week. Family came in from Iowa, Florida, and us Michigan locals, so it was easy for those of us nearby to come and go throughout the week.

One night, while everyone (minus one nephew 😭) was together, us kids and grandkids put together a dinner to celebrate them. We cooked all the food, brought in fresh flowers and decorations for the table, played a kid-friendly version of the Newlywed Game, taught the younger kids how to play Spoons, and they taught us some marshmallow eating game. 😂

We collected old photos from aunts and uncles along with some of our own, and my sister used those, along with my parents' original wedding video, to create a slideshow. It’s fun seeing how everyone has changed, and seeing my Grandpa who is no longer with us.

So let this be your sign to take the photos. More importantly, be in the photos.

No one remembers whether you thought your hair looked good or if you wished you'd lost 10 pounds first. One day, those photos may be all your family has left to look back on. They'll see your smile, remember your laugh, and be thankful you stepped in front of the camera instead of always standing behind it.

It’s been one of those weeks. 😂 I blocked off a few days with no sessions so I could finally make a dent in my editing queue… and then life had other plans.

The week began with whatever stomach bug is making the rounds. The day I finally felt human again and sat down at my computer, our electrical panel literally exploded and burnt itself to a crisp. So now we’re without power until Tuesday once inspections can be complete.

The good news? Our garage is on a separate panel, so we bought a window A/C unit, ran a few extension cords into the house, and officially have the world’s classiest editing setup. 😂

I’ve also got a three-day retreat to photograph here in South Haven this weekend, so between sessions I’ll be parked in front of that little A/C unit, cranking through galleries and staying on track.

Anyway… enough about my circus. Here’s a few favorites from this session!

A few sneak peeks from another surprise proposal session last week.

I waited at the bottom of the stairs leading down to Lake Michigan, standing behind a quilt, flowers, and petals scattered along the way. I photographed the proposal while their friends and family watched from the porch at the top of the stairs. The second she said yes, everyone started cheering... including the beachgoers watching from below.

Now it's time to disappear into Lightroom for a while. I've got 17 sessions sitting in my editing queue right now, including two weddings. If you need me this week, I'll be at my computer pretending I don't know what sunshine looks like.

I had to share a few more shots from Kyle + Abby’s wedding before I jump back into my editing queue.

Two surprise proposals, five extended family sessions, and a senior session kept my camera clicking all week during one of the hottest weeks of the year. I'm finally enjoying some AC on the couch for a bit before it's back to the computer.

If all goes according to plan, I should be caught up with editing sometime around the year 2916.

Another YES on Lake Michigan!

Two surprise proposals this week, and I somehow managed to keep both secrets.

Here's a sneak peek from this one. Swipe to see the moment she finally looked down at the ring. 😂

These two were an absolute blast. You can already tell life together is going to be one big adventure.
